Len of the Chilterns Report 27 Oct 2004 20:50

It hasn't yet arrived in the South-east but I'm ready. Have got a large supply of Alka-Seltzers and will commence lobbing them out of the window as the wind gets up. Len

Hi everyone, Thought you would like to know what it is like down here. PLYMOUTH HOE,just been on to the Hoe,and the waves are crashing over the rocks, torrential rain, blowing a gale, could just about stand. Amazing sight, the colour of the sea, dark green, almost black in places.wonder what will get washed up on the beaches when it subsides. Think I will take up beachcombing. regards trish.

Hi everyone just got back from driving over the causeway and it was pretty blustery and lashing with rain. Plenty of standing water now which isn't getting away down drains, but still very mild by comparison with 87. Grpa Jim- I like the isolation of Potland really. Wow Mandy.talk about being on cloud 9- What did they call the baby.STORM? That was the year that 7 Oaks became 1 Oak All of the islanders went up to the Portland Heights and hung on for dear life with our feet streaming out behind us and watched the sea blow holes through the Chesil Bank.It was put back bu bulldozers. Glad you are OK Bec and Molly LOL ABOUT THE CURRY Elaine So Chris in Edin. and Manda in yorks are having a fine day. How is Ireland now Trish? LouiseI'm on Portland It is certainly getting more blustery, but still not more than a Portland Blow.

A bit dull here in North Somerset. Looks like it might rain, but then again, it might brighten up. Got to go and collect my car from the garage, they have finally worked out what was wrong with it, then off to see mum for the afternoon. Hope the rain stays off for then.

Nell, you reminded me of a funny story about the gales of 1987. The wife of one of my hubby's work colleagues gave birth during the night, and once everything was over, he walked home from the hospital .... Well he was obviously so euphoric about the birth of his first born, that when everybody exclaimed with shock that he'd walked home through the storms, his reply was 'well I thought it was a bit windy'. We still laugh even to this day when they forecast storms! Mandy :)))

Good morning Rose, If the gales blow hard enough do you think they will blow the Island nearer to the mainland? It would save us a fortune in ferry fares. Lol Jim
