I have a living example of people's surnames reflecting where they came from. My daughter's boyfriend is half Italian, his surname is Terminiello. His father (and generations before) was (were) brought up in the village/town of Termini. His Nona (grandmother), and other members of his family still live there. maggie

I have several Derbyshire's in my family who lived in the village of Brailsford, Derbyshire and my own maiden name was Bradford - no family of my own there, but a few on my husband's side.

There is a small village outside Carlisle called Wetheral. My Dad always claimed we were descended from the de Weatheralls of Carlisle. Lol. His Mum claimed descendancy from Hereward the Wake. God knows where she got that idea from. Jim

My maiden name was Rosman, and you can find this name in a place in the USA. Don't know how it got there, but I've seen it on the map. My name came from Finland, so don't know how it got to the USA. No record of any emigration there, only Gt Britain. Sylvia xxx

It's unusual to find an old place that hasn't created a surname. Nearly all these will have UK origins. There are only 18 with the Yorkshire surname but thousands of Kents Check out this for surnames and first names http://www.yournotme(.)com/ Bob

My maiden name is PLAYFORD there is a village in suffolk and a city in Australia My grandmaother was PULHAM and there is a village in Norfolk called Pulham Market....although all my Pulhams i have found in suffolk .

There is a village called Lazenby near Redcar in Cleveland --used to be Yorkshire. Lazenby is my maiden name but there is no connection to my family that i know of although there were Lazenby's in Redcar.

My maiden name was Brinkley and there is a village with the same name.I think it is in Suffolk or Cambridge and every so often, all the Brinkleys meet there. I was sent a photo of the last meeting and there were over a hundred people there. It has its own website. Sylvia (now Whalley)in Perth WA
