McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 7 Nov 2004 17:45

Does anyone know of a website where you can do a 'self diagnosis' - sort of the animal equivalent of NHS Direct???

Not sure - developed laryngitis about 3-4 weeks ago; now his swallowing is very 'exaggerated' and noisy, and he seems to keep trying to be sick. Have treated for worms and hairball - He was okay to start but seems very subdued now :((

No, seriously, he is always eating grass - had his daily 'fix' this morning - and yes all jabs upto date.......... Worrying thing is tho, the other 'adult' cat seems to be doing the 'swallowing' thingy too :((

Sandra Report 7 Nov 2004 18:04

Anne its probably just a fur ball, or a cold, try not to worry to much sandra

SheilaSomerset Report 7 Nov 2004 18:07

Anne - you should get it checked out ASAP - could be a foreign object underneath his soft palate (even something like a blade of grass can cause problems).

Crikey I hope it's not a furball - he's been like it for 3 weeks - can you imagine - yuk! :O

Wee Scottish Lass

Wee Scottish Lass Report 7 Nov 2004 19:25

Anne, check his nose to see if there is any sign of anything there. One of my cats was choking and had difficulty swallowing. I noticed a very small piece of grass just inside his nose. When I pulled it, it was a 6ins long blade of grass! Don't know how long it had been there but it stank to high heaven and was clearly causing infection. Anyway it cleared up fine after that. So it could be something like that? Hope it gets sorted soon either way. Eileen

Eileen - thanks for the tip. Have checked his nose - much to his disgust - looks all clear. Will be ringing the vets first thing.

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 8 Nov 2004 23:12

Been to vets tonight - still not sure what is wrong, but he really didn't like the Vet trying to look down his throat (or taking his temperature LOL :O) He has lost some weight since his last visit, which is a bit of a worry as he had a thyroid gland removed in Feb. Gave him a couple of jabs (£37 quid including consultation)and have to go back in 3 days - if no better by then he will have to stay in to have some blood tests and microscope investigation under anesthetic. That said - I have just returned home and he seems a lot brighter, so it's looking good :)) Thanks for all your tips and concerns xx

Glitter Baby - thanks :)) My cats are my babies, just like everyone elses pets are to them. But I like dogs too, all domestic animals really and I do get upset when any of you on here have sad tales to tell.

Trouble Report 9 Nov 2004 00:18

Anne Don't forget to keep us posted, We all want to know how hes doing, Hopefully he will be OK and won't need to go back to the vet. My cat hates the vet so much that now the vet is scared of him!!The last time I had to hold him the whole way through and even when the vet had to give an injection, he (vet)looked at me first enought to say could I do it!!!!!!! NO!
