Thanks Lynda I wonder if there are any old photos of the street or the streets around it, as the house where she was born obviously isnt there and would like to know when it was pulled down, plus any other info on the street, I would love to know, thanks. I already have taken a few photos of the street but would love to know the history of the street. Ben

I too just had to but in as I come from Islington also (Linton Street). Just off either Essex Road, and then Packington Street or you could approach from the New North Road. When I moved out in 67 they were pulling down large blocks of houses to make way for flats.... Lynn

Thanks Lynda. I would imagine my great gran's dad drunk in the Thornhill Arms Pub which is an Arsenal one though and I am a Tottenham supporter, shame on my gg grandad. I also have one of my photos I took set as wallpaper on my desktop.

I feel at home in Islington as my great gran was born there, and when I am in any other part of London I do miss Islington.

Cor blimey, got to get in on this. Hi Lynn I grew up off St. Peter Street, Essex Road. I went to Islington Green School for a couple of years before Mum took me out and put me in a girls school probably cause she always said I was a tom boy, need more girls company well it didnt work, still got into trouble playing footie at break times with the netballs. Do you remember Popham Street Swimming baths? much better than them Caledonian Road swimming baths, LOL Pat x

Helen That Liverpool Road Hospital was part of the Royal Free Hospital, the main part being beside the Dental Hospital in Grays Inn Road they also had the Infectious Disease Hospital in Coppetts Wood and New End Hospital in Hampstead which was for Geriatrics. They merged with Hampstead General which was pulled down and the whole of the Royal Free was moved to Pond Street Hampstead and became known as the 'Hampstead Hilton' I did my Nurse Training there. I wonder was the Islington Infirmary New End Hospital as it was a very old small Hospital, really nice though. Do you know what part of Shoreditch your Nan was born? used to know Shoreditch very well, especially Hoxton Market (god I must have lived in MarketsLOL), I loved them, finding myself talking about them more as I get older.
