I love home made soup - Sylvia's pea soup sounds lovely. But I also liked the tinned variety, I think my favourite is Asparagus, with carrot and coriander a close second, with lovely chunky wholemeal bread.Mmm!!! But then I also like Lobster Bisque and clam chowder!!!! Ann Glos

It shows how different we all are doesn't it? No wonder there are so many flavours to choose from, we all like different varieties. I like most soups but can't stand mulligatawny or Oxtail and not keen on minestrone, although the chunky one from Tescos mentioned sounds interesting, must try it. anyone got any good easy recipes for home made soup? Tomato is my favourite, usually Heinz. The Portuguese do a tomato and onion soup and then poach an egg in it. All mopped up with bolo de caco (garlic bread) and washed down with vinho verde. Yummy. Oh, and by the way I don't like tomatoes. Ros

Heinz tomato soup with chunks of crusty bread to dip in it! Reminds me of Winter evenings at my Grandparents house waiting for Mum & Dad to come after work and collect my brother and me to take us home. Sue

Home made chicken or vegetable soup. Got the recipes years ago from my mum. Always a winner. Especially in the winter. Tinned has to be mushroom or lentil. Just made a pot of chicken soup today. Lovely. Must dash Foyle's War on now.

Brown Windsor Soup This is one of those soups that for years has had a terrible reputation as the dreadful 'Brown soup' served up routinely in boarding houses before and after World War II. Indeed, my sister and I always used to refer to this kind of sub-standard fare as 'a bit of Brown Windsor'. It was always a joke food to us. However, properly made this is a great British soup and well worth trying. Serves 4 Butter - 25g (1 oz) Onion - 1 small, finely chopped Leek - 1, green only, chopped Carrot - 1 small, diced Stewing steak - 350g (12 oz) Flour - 1 tbsp Beef stock - 1.4 litres (2½ pints) Bouquet garni - 1 Parsley - 1 tbsp, chopped METHOD Melt the butter in a large pan and cook the onion for 1-2 minutes. Add the leek and carrot, cover and allow to sweat for about 5 minutes. Add the beef and stir until it is browned. Add the flour to a little of the stock to make a paste. Add this mixture along with the rest of the stock to the pan. Bring everything to the boil. Add the bouquet garni, cover and simmer very gently for 2 hours. Remove the bouquet garni. Liquidise the soup and serve garnished with the parsley. Dee x With thanks to Google ;-)

I hate soup of any description. I worked in catering for many years and I can tell you that OUR Brown Windsor soup was left-over gravy. And Chef used to say (all the time, it drove everyone mad) "a cup-full of left-over vegetables is two cupfulls of soup".

I love all home made soup. Scotch Broth, cock-a-leekie, tattie, lentil, chicken and rice, tomato and rice. Usually use ham shank or hough or flank of mutton to flavour it. Up here in Scotland we usually make the soup so thick you could stand on it. It's like a meal on it's own. Yumm Christine
