Smoking is to be outlawed in all workplaces, enclosed public spaces, and anywhere serving food, the Government has announced. Health Secretary John Reid told the Commons the long-awaited White Paper was all about "enabling people to maximise their choices".

Ok, my choice is not to go to any of those places anymore, 'cause I don't want to give up my fags!!! Their loss!! Oh, the hardship, I can only go in pubs that don't serve cold pies, rock hard lasagne & soggy chips!! How will I cope?!!

I gotta say, im a smoker, and i smoke quite alot, but i do think of other people. Im not one of those rude smokers, i think all this banning thing is harsh. My mum hates smoke, and hates me smoking, but she also reckons too harsh!

It will cover all restaurants, cafes, offices, factories, enclosed public spaces, and the 90% of pubs that serve food.

I'm with you Lizzy. The government want to have a look at how much alcohol costs the NHS every year. Drunk drivers, killing anyone (except themselves, unfortunately), p*ssed up lads on a weekend , beating people to a pulp, let alone all the diseases associated with drinking!

Office smoking rooms will even be affected although pubs which serve bought-in food such as sandwiches will escape the ban, as pubs and bars with membership cards. But smoking will be prohibited in bar areas everywhere. The proposed ban will be first introduced in government buildings, then workplaces. Pubs and restaurants will be affected last.

By not allowing smoking in certain places, does not mean us non smokers are all for people getting drunk & drink driving. Two wrongs dont make a right. Drink driving has been cracked down on. Alough its impossible to catch all that do it. Breathing in cigarette smoke is not only unpleasant, but unhealthy. and there is nothing worse than someone lighting up while youre eating a meal . E x
