thank god my son doesnt read this, its one of his favourite sayings , and has been known to boast about the fact hes a war baby, hes 13 and was born early, when the first gulf war was on , his doctor was out in iraq looking after the troops, but made it back in time for his own son to be born the day before our son. i wonder where he is now.

Did you know? Bread pudding and bread and butter pudding and loads of other dishes were made up in and after the war years because there could be NO waste. I remember seeing mum cutting the green mould of the bread...My kids would go spare now if they saw me doing that lol (ssshhhh they love my bread pud ;) )

This is my mum's catchphrase!!! At least once every time you see her she says "during the war.... " We call her Uncle Albert! When we went to Duxford, the kids thought it was hilarious to phone up Nanny and all shout "DURING THE WAR" down the phone at her!!!! Maz. XX

When I was in infantry, we constructed the latrines over a stream. During the "rush hour" someone went upstream with a bundle of crumpled newspapers, set fire to them and floated them down, under the bogs. len

Oh thank you. Should have known, since that's what I do almost all the time I'm on these boards. What a nincompoop I am. My grand-daughter's love that old word too; and since we're on the "During the War" topic, it's a word I used to hear a lot as a child, it was well used in place of all the other choice words and phrases we use today which usually start with f and end with idiot.

I know I'm a div and I'm embarrassed to ask....but I have to as I keep seeing it and don't understand. Oh here I go then what is LOL - don't all shout at once, please. That's the second time today I've made an a** of myself.
