A poignant tribute in this morning's paper shows candles being lit - for some it was a way of saying goodbye. Flowers were also laid on memorial plaque for the many people who were never identified.

Today is the 25th anniversary when the Air New Zealand plane crashed on Mt Erebus in Antarctica killing 257 people. A memorial cross is being erected today. Sir Edmund Hillary now 85 made the journey and took part in the commemorations.
