So youngest son (18) expects Father Christmas to bring him an IPOD. Father Xmas thought these were about £80 and now finds different. Anyone know best site for buying an IPOD please?

Hi Heather, I got my daughter an MP3 player for Christmas but not an I-POD because of the numbers of people here being mugged for them. Apparently they have white headphones so the muggers know you have one?? Christine

Heather, It's hard to find good discounts on iPods because Apple doesn't really discount. You might save a few pounds by shopping around but not much. http://www.checkaprice.*com/Apple_iPod/compare_prices.php Crista

Thanks for your input guys. And for those oldies who dont know (I didnt an hour ago!) an IPOD is like a little player that can hold up to 5000 songs on it or something. You download the music onto it from your pc. There are about £230 and there is a mini IPOD which can hold a 1000 songs on it for about £170. Apparently it only weighs 3 oz. Back to the drawing board.

Heather Did you know that iPods are Apple Mac compatible andMP3's are windows compatible. I think you have to have some software if you use windows and have and iPod. MP3's are much cheaper although they don't hold as many tunes. Jeanette x

Learned a lesson the hard way with regards to this ipod. Daughter wanted one for Xmas, a pink one!! Thought I would buy one on ebay which I did for £140. Forget about postage and packing and the fact it was in America! So paid £180 eventually. Then found out I had to get an adaptor which wasnt dear but has taken me weeks to find. Next time, buy British for me! The damn thing better work now! Eileen

No, I didnt know about this compatible thingy. So if I get son the blue mini ipod he seems to want, then I have to buy more stuff to adapt the pc to it. Oh my gawd. It was bad enough with the Play Station 2 I got him last year. Spent a whole day networking it from the pc to his room (Dont ask, I still dont know how I managed to do it, just bloody minded British grit I think).

Oh Heather now you've got me worried! Youngest daughter wants a PS2. Do they have to be networked to your computer? I hope not cos she'll be changing bedrooms in the near future. Jeanette x

Jane I was looking for them on the internet on Saturday at places like Dixons, Currys etc. One of the sites did say they were sold out - think it was Comet. Mums going to try and order one from Dixons for me. Hope they haven't sold out. Jeanette x

We bought our youngest's Ipod from Argos a couple of weeks ago. Reduced from £299 to £219. That was the 20mb version. The coloured versions are called Mini Pods. It came in a box which contains charger, connecting leads and software. They are compatible with Mac & PC. There are a couple of places online that might be cheaper, but you have to add postage and you have the trauma of waiting for it to arrive, which isn't good as it gets closer to Christmas. It seems that lots of places are out of stock as it's a popular item this christmas. Playstation2 doesn't HAVE to be networked through the PC Jeanette, you can just play games on it through the tv, only if you want to play games online will it have to be networked to utilise the modem. Hope that helps Sioux

Heather

Heather Report 6 Dec 2004 09:43

Try argos for the PS2 - you can order them online from argos or pick them up from nearest branch. Yes, Im afraid I did have to network the pc for son because he does on-line gaming with it - plays against other people all over the world. May be your daughter wont need that facility!! Next he added 5.1 surround sound to it. The deaf neighbours 4 doors down can hear it now when he is fighting a war. But this IPOD thing has me worried now. Eldest son is off to New York on Friday, I was toying with the idea of getting him to buy it over there cheaper but if its not compatible? Oh for the days when they were little and the only thing to worry about was you had enough batteries for their xmas present. Hi, Sioux, we crossed messages! That sounds hopeful then. Did you get the minipod one from argos or the bigger version?
