susie manterfield(high wycombe) Report 11 Dec 2004 21:24

i was a teenage mum . i had my 1st son when i was 17,my 2nd son when i was 19. and by the time i was 22 i had 2 more children. my son was a dad at the age of 18 and maried at 19 and now has 3 children .my daughter was a mum at 18 aswell. i wouldnt say that me and hubby are lazy!!! my mum and dad were very hard workers and although they are both now in their 70's they still work part time. i think the statistics are wrong!! i totally disagree with them. susie

Have to say again: (Sorry) These are statistics for today's teenagers. I doubt that you ladies are teenagers (Sorry, sorry). You have to bear that in mind. (Sorry, sorry, sorry) Things have changed.

I'm only reading what the paper says. I would imagine it to be similar in places with rich to poor sections of society, which is more or less everywhere.

Daniel Report 11 Dec 2004 21:40

This isn't some bit of trivia. They can't lie about figures. Black and white for all to see. It was also featured on local radio etc so there must be some truth in it. (PS: I do like my food :-)

Len of the Chilterns

Len of the Chilterns Report 11 Dec 2004 21:53

In the days when I was an office manager in Westminster and had to "hire & fire" staff, I recall three instances where young girls, living with their parents, quit their jobs when they became pregnant. It transpired that becoming pregnant was a deliberate move to get a place of their own, away from the parental home and into a Council flat where they intended to live off benefits i.e let the rest of us support them. All three conceived whilst on holiday in Spain. There was no connection between any of these girls except that they all came from Council estates. Len

len 'tarred with the same brush' comes to mind!

Val

Val Report 11 Dec 2004 22:02

len it happens all over the world weather working or not the only problem i had was the elaine said pulling strings when on benifits that is what i disagreed with xx i no . no matter where you live it happens no matter what there parents do, it happens and yes many do go to live in council houses but many dont ,,and it is a shame with all the warnings now that they do xx
