William Report 15 Dec 2004 19:11

I don't normally get involved with these sort of topics.......However I for one will not mourn his passing, and I trust that the Labour Party will choose someone who will act in the interests of the whole country, and not someone who will seek to appease the readers of The Sun and The Mail. Regards William Russell Jones Cefn Mawr Wrexham.

Can we not feel sorry for a man who thought he'd found love and would do anything for her? She seems to have turned vindictive, releasing all these damaging facts. As a married woman, with one kid sired by her ex-lover and expecting another who may not be her husband's kid, she is hardly in a position to throw stones! I'm not Labour but he seems to have done the job to the best of his ability, and against all odds, how hard must it have been, being blind? Politicians are people just like us, with human failings, and we've all made mistakes in life/relationships, haven't we? I feel sorry for the man.

If I as a Parish Councillor had done any one of the things Bluncket has done (and admitted); Using official transport for his mistress, using officers time for personal meetings etc. I would have been forced to resign by the standards committee that has been foistered upon us by parliament. He should have resigned rather than saying sorry I did not know the meaning of the word spouce, heres the £180 back. This was tantamount to robbery from the public purse by the Home Secretary. Why did he wait so long? Bob

Spot on Bob

VIVinHERTS Report 15 Dec 2004 21:46

Wahay! But look who's taking over..... Charles Clarke! Still, at least I don't have to follow educational directives from him anymore!!!!!! Viv

Lily

Lily Report 16 Dec 2004 10:23

If all the MP's who have wrongly used official transport, helped their friends with all sorts of little services resigned, we wouldn't have anyone left in Parliament!

Lily

Lily Report 16 Dec 2004 10:24

Blunkett's biggest mistake was to talk to that author, without discretion!! We all have views on our work colleagues but wouldn't express them publically, until we were leaving!

Bob

Bob Report 16 Dec 2004 13:17

If I helped friends and hence abused my office I would have to resign. So I think it is only fair that the same standards apply to MPs amd ministers. After all it was their behaviour that brought in the standards board for local governement. Even if I do not take part in a debate or vote, I can be cencored for not disclosing an interest. This also aplies to ant derogatory comments I may make about my fellow councillors or staff. If I were to publish a book rubishing them, I hate to think what would happen. In any of these situations I would not only have to resign as Chairman, but also my seat. Bob

I don't know about the rest of you ladies, but if I were going to have an affair I'd pick a better looking guy. How did he do it? I bet Fathers 4 Justice are disappointed. Having someone who is fighting to see his child and also a member of the cabinet would have helped them immensely. Crista
