Jeanette 8 dozen today, ( a long way to go to catch up with Ros!!) will make the last ones on Christmas Eve, as the kids like that smell when they come in. All in the freezer now, kept a couple out for son, as he thinks its a form of torture if I bake and freeze stuff with out his sampling it first, also done him a tray of fruit scones, just put fruit cake in the oven now. and 2 Barm Bracks in to soak overnight, bake them in the morning thats my lot for the day, (except for the clearing up) hope you feel better now, have cereal then mince pie next time, dont eat on an empty stomach!!! Kathleen

Steve, no problem freezing cooked mincepies. You can also freeze raw ones in the tins, remove when frozen using a hot teatowel to loosen them (grease the tins very well first) and then seal in a plastic bag. Place back in the tins to cook, can be thawed but I cook from frozen. Theresa if you send me you email address I will forward a couple of recipes taken from my mothers 40 year old WI recipe book, they are already in Word. Ros

I make my own, usually 4 dozen. 2 of those dozen i put a small ball of marzipan in the centre before i bake them. Does anybody know if you can freeze mince pies after they have been cooked ? Steve.

Have been perfecting the art of making Gluten free pastry so I can make some to take to my son, the bought gluten free mince pies are so expensive. Just bought from Asda a moist fruit cake undecorated at the roll back price of £2.98, good till Feb, so have bought 2. Val

I make my own mincemeat around September time, of course we have to have some samples but they never seem to be around long after hubby has sampled them. So roll on next week when i can start making them, Margaret Happy Christmas all

Ros You're obviously very handy in the kitchen and it sounds like you enjoy it too. I'm not quite so good so I will buy my mince pies. We don't like Christmas cake in our house so my Mum cooks us a lovely fruit loaf. I've had to hide it where my hubby can't find it otherwise there would be none left by Christmas! My daughter suggested a good hiding place - the ironing cupboard. Nobody ever goes in there! lol Jeanette x

Wow Kathleen looks like your going to have a busy day! I've felt sick ever since I had that mince pie this morning. Maybe I should just stick to cereal for breakfast! lol Jeanette x

I make my own Mince Pies still.I don't like the pastry in the bought ones although if I couldn't make them for some reason, I would buy Mr Kiplings. I made a dozen yesterday and have already eaten 4. My husband doesn't like them and we are not likely to have visitors, so all the more for me!!!!

Kathleen Report 18 Dec 2004 10:52

Must make them myself as the Dutch don't know mince pies at all. All extra work, but I enjoy cooking anyway. Love, Sylvia xxx
