I thought they sacked Chris Parker out of Eastenders because he refused to talk to a specialist. BBC couldn't risk his problems happening again so got rid.

Even so Dan I still think Dev's crime is far worse! I can understand the BBC to a point but I cannot understand Granada if they are going to stand by a Junkie! Shaz x

Sandra This is what it says: Corrie's Bosses Back Cocaine Star Coronation Street's Jimmi Harkishin, aka Dev Coronation Street star Jimmi Harkishin is to keep his job with the soap - but is taking time off to seek treatment for his drug problems. Harkishin, who plays shopkeeper Dev Alahan, has been granted indefinite leave by bosses at Granada. The actor. who was pictured by a Sunday newspaper snorting cocaine, was thought to be close to being axed. But Harkishin, 45, had a meeting with Granada bosses today. A spokeswoman said: "Both Granada and Jimmi Harkishin recognise that he has some problems that he needs to sort out. "He will be taking a break from the show while he seeks help to deal with those issues. "This is with the full support of the company, Coronation Street and his colleagues.'' Granada did not consider sacking Harkishin despite newspaper revelations. The spokeswoman said: "There was never any question of him being sacked. "We are a responsible employer and we have a duty of care to our employees. The pressures Jimmi has been under are a result of him appearing in our show. We will help Jimmi to seek the help that he needs." Bosses have set no time limit for Harkishin's treatment, but he is likely to be gone for several months. He has already filmed five weeks' worth of scenes in advance and storylines will be rewritten to explain his absence. Dev was recently at the centre of one of the ITV soap's most explosive plots when his ex, "Mad'' Maya, torched his shops in revenge for him marrying Sunita.

I'm not defending Dev, (not even his name :-), but just saying what I though happened regarding Eastenders. To say he's not long out of nappies - get away, he's 21! Why he couldn't do what BBC asked his beyond me.

Sandra its true I just read it myself... Granada are giving him time off and are not sacking him. They think he needs time off to get through this and has the support of the company!! Well that just about says it all... A few weeks ago he was switching price tags in stores now he is taking drugs... and he has always been a totally crap actor!! Shaz x
