Nanna Gaynor (June nr Preston's Daughter) Report 20 Dec 2004 14:57

I just wanted to put a thread on the board because I know that many of you are friends of my Mum, June Nr Preston. On Friday 17th December after picking my son, Nick up from work, they experienced a terrible shock, whilst in heavy tea-time traffic, a car pulled out in front of them and as it sped away, they realised that a little dog was lying in front of them on the road in the midst of all the traffic obviously terribly injured. Mum and Nick, my son, both jumped out of the car, stopped the traffic and Nick very slowly and carefully moved the little dog onto a travelling rug which Mum had in the car and they carried it to the vets about a hundred yards down the road. The vet took the dog in immediately but unfortunately there was nothing they could do and the poor little soul died in my son's arms. Both Mum and Nick were devastated, they did not know who the little dog belonged to but it deeply affected them and they have both been very upset over the weekend. The vet informed the owners and my son has since been to see the little dog, "Bud"s, owners to assure them that they did everything they could. They were pleased to see Nick as they hadn't known how little Bud had died. There is more unpleasantness which surrounds these events for the people concerned but I don't wish to disclose this online but Mum's friend's will know what has gone on. Mum has been unable to use the boards for a few days due to computer problems which she has emailed Genes and hopefully she will be back with us all soon. As we are all so close on this board, I felt sure that those of you who know Mum would want to show your support. Gaynor. ************************************************** I have just spoken to Mum and she says it's ok to tell the whole story........just before they saw the little dog come running out, they saw three men running out of the jewellers shop and wondered if there had been a burglary. Then they saw little Bud, on his back with his little legs waving around, lying in the road. After coming out of the vets they saw police and an ambulance outside the jewellers, there had been a raid. They were in shock from the experience with the little dog so went straight home, it wasn't until they got the local paper that Mum read about the robbery. Apparently the three blokes had gone in with machettes and attacked the owner in the head and arm (he is a goldsmith and a practical jeweller), the dogs had run out after them as they left but poor little Bud was hit. At the time that Mum and Nick took Bud to the vets, Mum kept thinking she recognised him but didn't know whose little dog he was (a jack russell cross). Nick went to his Dad's for the weekend but when he came back he went to see the jewellers wife (her husband is still in hospital but is on the mend) to explain what had happened and assure her that they had tried to save Bud. She told Nick that their other dog had also run out and was missing until 4am the following morning but thankfully it was found unharmed. Anyway she was relieved to know what had happened to Bud even though he hadn't survived the hit. There are some cruel people in this world, that's all I can say, but I am so proud of my Mum and My Son. Thank you all for your concern - I didn't want to print all this openly on the board before with it being a police matter, but it is in the local papers anyway. Hope you all have a Wonderful Christmas and New Year brings you everything you are hoping for! Gaynor :-) xxx

Your Mum and son are both kind people , they tried to do the best for little Bud and we can all be thankful for that. My cat was killed on Dec 23rd. a few years ago and I always wonder if the woman who did it remembers the day as vividly as I do , or even the date... I was there myself to pick him up and sometimes its really hard to stop rewinding that tape in my mind and playong it over and over Joan

Bless their cotton socks.... I have lost a cat through an RTA and the car driver was kind enough to take him to a vet so i am sure the owners will be delighted that someone cared enough to look after him!! BIG HUGS FOR THEM BOTH!!

Oh what a horrible thing to go through... for your mum and son as well as the owners. Having once (long time ago) assisted an hystircal lady in removing a (very dead) cat that she'd run over, I can only imagine the anguish of doing all that you can to help but having the poor thing die anyway. Don't know June thta well myself, but I know how highly regarded she is on here... hope she's back soon.. and that whoever ran the dog over get's their comeuppance Paul

Yes, I saw June just recently at the Manchester meetup and she's a great lady. Must have been terribly upsetting. We have a couple of dogs ourselves and it's enough to make you shudder, pray nothing like that happens to them. All the best to June and her family, Andy

Thanks everyone for your well wishes I know she will appreciate it, Mum and Nick have been very upset over the weekend and like I said , there was more to this than just poor little Bud, if that wasn't enough on its own. I know your kind words will help her and Nick feel better. Thank you - Gaynor

Glenys the Menace! Report 20 Dec 2004 17:11

Hello Gaynor, and I too, am sorry to hear of this. A similar thing happened to us last year with a young cat that had just been run over (the driver was distraught). A neighbour knocked on our door saying a cat had been injured, and could we help. Hubby was still at work; the kids and I ran down the road and, while my daughter held the kitten in a blanket and slowly walked home, I rang the vets and my son helped too. The three of us took "Skye" to the vets, but sadly she died in my daughter's arms on the way. This devastated her, especially as before we adopted her she lost her own cat in similar circumstances. However, due to the childrens' efforts I wrote to the RSPCA, and they both received a certificate of commendation. They also received a reward from the owners of Skye. Our best wishes and a hug go to your Mum and Nick; it is very upsetting, but they did all they could. Glenys x
