There are various ways of blocking adds, depending of your system. These adds not only slow down your system they are also a potential route to malware/viruses etc. There are two main flashers types macromedia flash and animated gifs In Internet explorer tools/options/advanced make sure "play animations in web pages" is unchecked. If using SP2 Macromedia Flash can be disabled in Tools/manage add-ons. The only solution in SP1 appears to be third party or remove MF. Spyware Blaster has a "Kill Bit" in tools. A little known method even amongst experts is to use the "HOSTS" file. this does not use any software but uses windows itself. This is very effective and safe, you can delete/rename the HOSTS file with no problem. However it does block ads, banners, cookies, web bugs, and even most hijackers!! THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE TIPS I KNOW OF! (along with CCleaner) I use Firefox most of the time as this can block adds itself (only use IE for the odd site) but most people seem wary of trying something different. Bob

Morning everyone i hope you all had a great day yesterday and got lots of lovely presents. Well i have had a reply from GR saying exactly the same as Joy said SPONSERS. I have sent another e-mail asking why some get it and some don,t and with all the members they have at £7.50 a year what do we get out of the sponsership except the onnoying blue moving advert for loans . I agree we all could move our GR page over but why should we have to keep chopping and changing? Val

I replied to GR that I was surprised they needed sponsorship considering the number of subscribers. They thanked me for my feedback, I think they said!! Joy

I always have my " Genes" on " half size page" that gives me access to drag the pane around,,,,,,,,I have mine dragged to the left. far enough to lose the advert.Bob

I've not got any adverts - never have had. Thank goodness by the sounds of it though. I do block them all though in Norton. Jan

Like others, I have been told that these are not adverts but sponsorship. I wrote back stating "I will definitely not be renewing my membership. Paying for "advertising" - don't care what you call it - is an insult to your full members. To have them flashing, when members have stated that they give headaches is down right insulting." They replied saying that they have passed my comments on to their management team. That was on 19 Dec. So far, no reply. Nesta

Yes all my ads have been removed except the one onthe left underneath 'View Trees' and above 'Import/Export Tree' but it doesnt change its always the freedom finance one. Glad the others have gone though! Shaz x

Didn't realise I can drag the screen over to the left! I have downloaded Google toolbar as Paul suggested but can't find out how to uninstall pop-ups. Not really very 'with it' on I.T. Dilys

A tip that might help, if you dont mind an off centered window, Click on the blue band at the top of " genes" and drag the whole window to the left, until the advert is hidden,Then ( more permanently,)if you have the option somewhere to 'Save window and position,' save it and the ad is gone, you can always redrag it right, to get at the menu on the left. anytime.

I to get the ping pong image down the left hand side. Can anyone explain how different ads appear on diff.location ?i.e. ping pong inthe south and the midlands whilst others get something diff. or better still zilch. Rupert Bear.

If you enter "Macromedia flash player uninstaller" into Google, it will give you a site that will give a free download of the uninstaller. Once uninstalled, the annoying advert is still there but it doesn't move anymore. Flash player is used by a lot of sites for their adverts. If you find you need flash player for other programmes you could always get another free download and re-install it but so far I have found that I'm better off without it. UPDATE If you use Incredimail you need flash player and will automatically be directed to an automatic download when you try to use Incredimail. Paul

I have e-mailed GR and asked them why some are still getting this advert and some arn,t. I get so frustrated when it keeps on about Loans etc. At the moment it is saying FREE YOUR MIND GO GET A LOAN . Perhaps they own the loan company !!!!! Merry Christmas Val
