Agree with you Susan. I'm not in the slightest bit interested in the goings-on with the Royal family and don't particular bother with the Queens speech, but they are better than the alternatives.

Andy, many of us may have immigrants in our ancestry I have one who insists he was born in antwerp...........but I cant trace the bu**er

The Queen knows which side her bread is buttered. The royal family will go along with any current political opinion as long as it doesn't finacially disadvantage her and her lot. And while we are at it her lot are immigrants as well aren't they? Grandmother, Mary of Teck. Gt Grandmother, Alexandra of Denmark. Gt Gt Grandfather, Albert of Saxe Coburg Gotha Gt GT GT Grandmother Victoria of Saxe Coburg Gt GT GT GT Grandmother Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg Strelitz. So they are b/@@&y Germans and Austrians for the most part! My family aren't, why should we worskip the freeloaders!

That law was passed in 1772. I don't think anyone takes it seriously nowadays. We'll have to wait and see if Camilla and Charles marry, and maybe then we'll find out what they really believe.

I will say this much for the Queen. In her Royal capacity as the Head of the Church of England, she has never tried to "twist the rules" to accommodate herself or her family. You cannot say as much for many other representatives of the C of E, who to my mind, would change the rules to admit anyone, if they thought it would bring more people to the Church.

right got you now..........it IS strange about the laws that govern our Queen there was a hoo har when Princess Margaret wanted to marry a divorcee..........now she (Margaret) could have told our young princes a thing or to.......

Daniel

Daniel Report 29 Dec 2004 18:47

None in particular, but that is the law if any of them ever wanted to.

Daniel, To which roman catholic are you refering ? The only likely candidate for a wedding, I can see on the horizon, is a Zimbabwean?

Sylvia Henry the Eighth could change things because he was an absolute monarch, answerable to no-one but himself. Our present Queen is not!

Alice

Alice Report 29 Dec 2004 15:50

Because our Queen is a figure head only she cannot draft bills

Henry eighth could change things around, so why not our queen! Sylvia xxx

Pat is correct - not only is Prince Michael of Kent's wife roman catholic but was divorced.

The Queen is head of the Church of England. She's a religious figurehead as well as the monarch. Do you think the Chief Rabbi would shack up with a Hindu, or that the Pope would surround himself with Muslim advisors?

Pat

Pat Report 29 Dec 2004 12:02

Daniel I think you have a very good point. A speech that preaches tolerance is fair enough and only right, but not from someone who does not or cannot do the same. The speech should not have been written for or even said by the Queen who is the head of the Church Of England, and has to adhere to that unless the Royals request change, which they can. As far as I know Prince Michael's wife is a Catholic? but he had to renounce the lineage to the thrown when marrying her? It is a case of do as I say not as I do. Hypocritical? yes Daniel it is. That is why I moved away from Organised Religion. I've learnt the lessons in Sunday School, I have a copy of the instruction manual, and God blessed me with a brain. So now I try to live as I believe He wants me to. And, by the way, that does not include any violence.

Anglican Catholic Methodist Mormon, it doesn't make any difference. After all the head of them all is supposed to be Jesus Christ.

Daniel

Daniel Report 29 Dec 2004 11:39

The point is, The Queen is happy to preach to us about tolerating other religions etc, and rightly so, but the fact that she doesn't allow her own family to marry anyone from the Roman Catholic faith seems make a mockery of what she is saying.

The Queen lives the life she was born to, as do we all. she didn,t choose her parents. I would suggest she has done an excellent job - and continues to do so, even in her late 70s. She is a credit to the country. Best wishes
