I was disgusted to read in the Mail just now that Cherie Blair has written a book that is'nt selling very well. "She told friends she had decided to keep the royalties, rather than donating it to the seven charities of which she is a patron or trustee, because she had worked very hard on the book and felt she deserved her reward" Well she's recently got a three and a half million pound house in Belgrave square, free holidays and probably loads of other perks. Perhaps she should try living on Benefits like thousands of others have to.

I can't say I like the woman but why should she donate the royalties just because she has wealth? Do other authors donate their royalties? I don't think so - that is how they become so wealthy!! If, Cherie Blair said at the outset that she would donate the royalties, that is a different matter. If the book is about her charity work then perhaps that warrants the payments going to the charities. As for experiencing life on benefits, I know of many who live that way and they appear to have more free cash for spending than we do every month. Their homes have new furniture and all mod cons - something I wish we could afford at times. Jacky

You mean to tell me that you thought that the "Blairs"would actually give Money away,Have you seen any "Pigs" Flying around their area recently?. All they do is "Take it" as much as possible for as long as possible. Happy New Year. Hal.

I agree with you Jo - she disgusts me too, she is nothing but a freeloader. Sorry Jacky, I disagree. She has more than enough money for her needs but can't donate her royalties to charity? I make and sell greetings cards - very small time - but I don't keep any profit for myself, only the cost of the materials. The profit is sent straight to my local hospice. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't make some sort of effort to support charity. Besides having no dress sense and no manners, she obviously doesn't have any conscience either.

Jacky, I made this comment because of who she is. Second lady of the land. She should be thinking surely of making friends and influencing people, of which she does neither. Jo.

Mandy, I am not defending her personally but surely the same would apply to many people including Politicians and Actors. They all have more than enough but still keep royalties. Yes, it would be a nice gesture for her to offer the royalties but I don't think she or anyone else, should be expected to. We all know from our own experiences that it is those who have the least that donate the most be it with time, money or enthusiasm for something. Jo, I agree. It would be great if the second lady of the land would lead by example but to date, I can't say that has happened whoever it has been! Jacky

Jacky I do agree with you, regarding the matter of expectation... however... if she is parton or trustee of several charities, I imagine they were expecting her to live up to that position. Paul

JackyJ1593 Report 29 Dec 2004 15:04

Paul, As with many who donate who do things for charity, it is often not publicised. Does anyone know what she does do for her chosen ones? It could be a lot and not made public. There again it could be nothing. We don't know (or I don't!) so it is unfair to judge her actions over the book royalties without knowing. Jacky PS I HATE political discussions!! :-))

A WORD OF CAUTION That Blair Woman is, as has been said, a Barrister. Please ensure that no-one says anything libellous. I would hate for her to add your money to hers through a suit for damages.

Well I would like to know exactly what she does do. She's got a lot to live up to being the PM's wife, I would have thought it would be in her own interests to promote her husbands career.........and basically..........be nice. But she is not.

Look at when she went to that children's designer clothes shop, they offered her a freebie (why? she of all people could afford to pay!) and went round literally filling her arms with stuff. After all the furore, she paid - or at least her PR said she did - but she wasn't going to!
