You Don't Make It Easy Babe by Josh Ritter Here I am standing at your window again waiting for you to say go away or come in. I’m your locked door’s worst knocker, I’m your curtain’s best friend. I’m trying hard to love you – you don’t make it easy Babe. I’m trying hard to love you – I’m looking for an easy way. Your friends ask about me you say I can be found with the cheap romance novels with their spines battered down. Oh the heart has no bones you say so it won’t break but the purpose of loving is the pounding it takes. I’m trying hard to love you – you don’t make it easy Babe. I’m trying hard to love you – I’m looking for an easy way. The ropes that have bound me leave no marks by their knots and though they’re your hair that don’t mean I’m not caught. I know the sound of the handcuffs as they scrape across the floor but that new thing you’ve got I’ve got no clue what it’s for. I’m trying hard to love you – you don’t make it easy Babe. I’m trying hard to love you – I’m looking for an easy way. With fortune’s rocks millstones you hang round my throat and a brick for my window weighted down with a note. I hope you find someone just as hard as you come in this hard world sadly that’s so easily done. I’m trying hard to love you – you don’t make it easy Babe. I’m trying hard to love you – I’m looking for an easy way. I’m trying hard to love you – you don’t make it easy Babe. I’m trying hard to love you – there’s gotta be an easy way.

No more talk of darkness Forget these wide-eyed fears I’m here, nothing can harm you My words will warm you and calm you Let me be your freedom Let daylight dry your tears I’m here, with you and beside you To guard you and to guide you Say you love me every waking moment Turn my head with talk of summertime Say you need me with you now and always Promise me that all you say is true That's all I ask of you Let me be your shelter Let me be your light You’re safe, no one will find you Your fears are far behind you All I want is freedom A world with no more night And you, always beside me To hold me and to hide me Lucia :-)

Thought it somwehet fitting to post this.... I see trees of green........ red roses too I see ’em bloom..... for me and for you And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world. I see skies of blue..... clouds of white Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world. The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky Are also on the faces.....of people ..going by I see friends shaking hands.....sayin’.. how do you do They’re really sayin’......i love you. I hear babies cry...... I watch them grow They’ll learn much more.....than I’ll never know And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky Are there on the faces.....of people ..going by I see friends shaking hands.....sayin’.. how do you do They’re really sayin’...*spoken*(I ....love....you). I hear babies cry...... I watch them grow *spoken*(you know their gonna learn A whole lot more than I’ll never know) And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world Yes I think to myself .......what a wonderful world.

I have often walked Down the street before, But the pavement always Stayed beneath my feet before. All at once am i Several stories high, Knowing I’m on the street where you live. Are there lilac trees In the heart of town? Can you hear a lark in any other part of town? Does enchantment pour Out of every door? No, it’s just on the street where you live. And oh, the towering feeling Just to know somehow you are near The overpowering feeling That any second you may suddenly appear. People stop and stare They don’t bother me, For there’s no where else on earth That I would rather be. Let the time go by, I won’t care if i Can be here on the street where you live. Lucia :-)

Ok...this is the song that i have been listening alot to...kind of to stop me frompicking up the phone and asking Dave back, The fights, those nights I tried to pretend it don't hurt The way, I prayed Someday that you would love me Really, completely Just how I wanted it to be But no, so wrong Can't believe I stayed with you so long You hit, you spit, you split, ever-y bit of me, yeah You stole, you broke, you're cold You're such a joke to me, yeah For every last bruise you gave me For every time I sat in tears For the million ways you hurt me I just wanna tell you this You broke my world, made me strong Thank you Messed up my dreams, made me strong Thank you My head, near dead Just the way you wanted it My soul, stone cold Cos I was under you're control So young, so dumb Knew just how to make me succumb But I understand To make yourself feel like a man You hit, you spit, you split, ever-y bit of me, yeah You stole, you broke, you're cold You're such a joke to me, yeah For every last bruise you gave me For every time I sat in tears For the million ways you hurt me I just wanna tell you this You broke my world, made me strong Thank you Messed up my dreams, made me strong Thank you You coulda had it all babe It coulda been so right I woulda given you everything Morning through night Yeah, you taught me some lessons Those are my blessings That won't happen again Thank you

Since we seem to have moved on from single lines to whole songs....Anotehr of my favourites... Is it worth it A new winter coat and shoes for the wife And a bicycle on the boy’s birthday It’s just a rumour that was spread around town By the women and children Soon we’ll be shipbuilding Well I ask you The boy said ’dad they’re going to take me to task But I’ll be back by christmas’ It’s just a rumour that was spread around town Somebody said that someone got filled in For saying that people get killed in The result of this shipbuilding With all the will in the world Diving for dear life When we could be diving for pearls It’s just a rumour that was spread around town A telegram or a picture postcard Within weeks they’ll be re-opening the shipyards And notifying the next of kin Once again It’s all we’re skilled in We will be shipbuilding With all the will in the world Diving for dear life When we could be diving for pearls

Paul I love that song too. I bought the purple vinyl version. My fav line of a song though comes from Borderline by Chris de Burgh. "But these are only boys and I will never know how men can see the wisdom in a war" Gives me goose bumps ever time I hear it. Mel

and while I think about it, one of my favourite songs (ever !! lol) I never thought it would happen With me and the girl from clapham Out on a windy common That night i ain't forgotten When she dealt out the rations With some or other passions I said you are a lady Perhaps she said i may be We moved into a basement With thoughts of our engagement We stayed in by the telly Although the room was smelly We spent our time just kissing The railway arms we're missing But love had got us hooked up And all our time it took up I got a job with stanley He said i'd come in handy And started me on monday So i had a bath on sunday I worked eleven hours And bought the girl some flowers She said she'd seen a doctor And nothing now could stop her I worked all through the winter The weather brass and bitter I put away a tenner Each week to make her better And when the time was ready We had to sell the telly Late evenings by the fire With little kicks inside her This morning at 4:50 I took her rather nifty Down to an incubator Where thirty minutes later She gave birth to a daughter Within a year a walker She looked just like her mother If there could be another And now she's two years older Her mother's with a soldier She left me when my drinking Became a proper stinging The devil came and took me From bar to street to bookie No more nights by the telly No more nights nappies smelling Alone here in the kitchen I feel there's something missing I'd beg for some forgiveness But begging's not my business And she won't write a letter Although i always tell her And so it's my assumption I'm really up the junction

Bryan, I'm not sure I agree with you on the "better to have loved and lost bit", and "Can't hurry love" was originally by the Supremes I think ? Another current favourite from Rufus Wainwright ("oh what a world") Oh what a world We live in Why am I always on a plane or a fast train Oh what a world my parents gave me Always Travelin' but not in love Still I think I'm doin' fine Wouldn't it be a lovely headline Life is Beautiful
