In the first 10 years of compulsory registration of BMD, perhaps up to 10% of the population evaded it for various motives. Things gradually improved but, sadly, many of us find that, immediately after 1837, many of our rellies never got listed. Len

Ah ha. Still, I suppose doing it online is quicker (if more expensive!) than trawling through the indexes at the FRC. Perhaps not quite as much fun though.. Cheers

Hi Ruth, That kind of limits the use of the search doesn't it? I am still quite new to all this!! Hi Sandra, I don't know where, but suspect Flyde in Blackpool.. Thanks for the responses

Hello, I was trying to find a relative (Francis Fishwick) who was possibly born between 1855 and 1865. freeBMD.org.uk didn't show any likely results (I know that it is not complete) so thought I would try 1837online. When I do a search for FISHWICK, Francis between those years, it seems to return a page for every volume of every year. Does this mean that there is actually a record for those years or is it a rather fuzzy search that they use? Thanks for any advice.
