I worked in a building society and one of my customers was Jimmy Riddle. Apparently it was a tradition in his family that the oldest son got lumbered with the name. |

One of my customers was a jeweller by profession and his surname was RICHES. When his first child was born he came into my office to open an account for his child. I helped him fill out his application form. I thought he was pulling my plonker when I asked for the child's first name. "PRECIOUS". I was even more shocked when I realised the child was a BOY!!!! Can you imagine what that poor lad was going to have to suffer as he went through childhood at school etc. I would have blamed him if he changed his name by Deed Poll when he grew up. Poor lad!! |

My best friend's younger brother was called Donald McDonald, but called Donny. Further to Ann (Mater) re Phil McCracken. I knew someone called Benjamin Doune ie Ben Doune. Possibly that's where the rude joke comes from if you put the two names together! |

Many years ago I was in a museum in London - a young child was misbehaving and his exasperated mother shouted, "Oh come here, Apollo"! I felt so sorry for the boy, wonder what his surname was! |

One of my GGaunts was caled Fanny. She married a Richard Hoare, thus becoming Fanny Hoare. They had a daughter, who was transcribed on the 1891 census as Winifred A Hoare. I have also found on various censuses an Obadiah Orange Lemon and a lad called Brighton Gay! maggie |

What I can never understand is when women get married and take on their husband's name when it's WORSE than their maiden name! Me, I was quite happy to get married and become Mrs Blake, a vast improvement on my previous hindrance (sorry mum and dad lol). But someone in my husband's firm got married and is now called Lucy Lemon - WHY??? If I'd come across any amusing names, I'd add them, but sadly not :( Mandy :) |

I've come across a Richard Cramp (known as Dick) and I must share one of my all time favourite names ... Terry Tubby! The poor bloke was born well before Twiny Winky etc. What a nightmare his life must have been when the programme was launched. L :) |
