The money for the bread should have been split 4 and 1. The chap who came along had 4/3 loaf from the first man and 1/3 loaf from the second.

There were two men. The first had 3 small loaves of bread and the other 2. They walked to a spring, where they sat down and started eating. A soldier joined them and shared their meal. Each of the 3 men ate the same amount. When the soldier departed, he left 5 bezants to pay for his meal. The first man took 3 bezants, since he had 3 loaves, whereas the other took the remaining 2 bezants for his 2 loaves. Was the division fair?

The distance from Anglechester to Clinkerton must be 200 miles. The train went 50 miles at 50 m.p.h. and 150 miles at 30 m.p.h. If the accident had occurred 50 miles farther on, it would have gone 100 miles at 50 m.p.h. and 100 miles at 30 m.p.h

With a permanent wave LOL A Classic Puzzle by Henry Ernest Dudeney We were going by train from Anglechester to Clinkerton, and an hour after starting an accident happened to the engine. We had to continue the journey at three-fifths of the former speed. It made us two hours late at Clinkerton, and the driver said that if only the accident had happened fifty miles farther on the train would have arrived forty minutes sooner. Can you tell from that statement just how far it is from Anglechester to Clinkerton?

OK OK - A silly one... A man driving through the fields hits a big rabbit. Quickly stopping his car he pours a bottle of liquid over the rabbit. The rabbit jumps up and hops off waving goodbye all the way. What was in the bottle?

You lot are too good - I must find some harder ones. A man makes the following proposition to his friend: "I will let you flip a coin 20 times. Each time the coin lands on heads, I will give you £2.00. However, each time the coin lands on tails, you must give me £3.00." His friend flips the coin 20 times and the end result is that no money is to change hands. How many times did the coin land on heads?

Bob

Bob Report 6 Jan 2005 21:44

Yep.... A can of pop and a bar of chocolate cost a total of £1.50. The can is £1.00 more than the cost of the chocolate. What is the price of each item?

Geoff

You can put the circle inside the square leaving space at the corners, so the square is bigger.

Bob

Bob Report 6 Jan 2005 21:38

This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it? It looks so plain you would think nothing was wrong with it! In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is unusual though. Study it, and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out! Try to do so without any coaching!
