Jeanette - I am sorry to hear about your bereavement, but glad that you are able to tailor the funeral to suit a wonderful patriot, and family man. It is not unusually you know to have photographs taken at a funeral, nor indeed videos. I know it sound kind of odd, but it will only take place once and wont ever be repeated. Many many people have photographers etc at funerals to record the occasion - obviously when you are emotionally involved you will only recall a small portion of what is happening, so do consider asking a friend to take some snaps (discreatly of course) as in due course you and your family members will appreciate them, if not immediately. I am a funeral director and often arrange such matters for clients, so its not odd at all to me. Whatever you think fitting, is appropriate. Will be thinking of you next week. Jacqui

Glitter I was about say it must be something in the water round here! lol. But........ Jacqui Thanks for letting me know that. I didn't realise. I wish had known at my Dad's funeral. The amount of people that were there left me gobsmacked. I knew my Dad was a well respected and well thought of man at work and in the village but I hadn't quite realised how much. And as you say, you only tend to remember a small portion. My youngest sister is giving a reading - something I found on Linda's thread 'words for the bereaved'. She's trying to decide between He's Gone and All is Well. We all quite like the latter but she is having trouble saying solemnity! Jeanette x

Jeanette - tell your sister to use another word - "quietness" for instance - do not let her struggle over a word, she will get a block about it. Just substitute another one that she's comfortable with that means the same or something similar. I do feel that now you have discussed the matter of your grandad's funeral next week with all of us here, you will be mentally much better prepared to "take in" all that will happen, and maybe later on you will feel able to talk to other members of your family about all you see. That doesnt mean that you will be disengaged from the proceedings, on the contrary, it means that you will be looking subsconsciously at all the things you have spoken about, and taking it all in. Maybe you wont want a photographer after all? Love to you and your family - may you celebrate the life of your loved one in a truly fitting style. Jacqui
