My G. Uncle owns Benny the Born. His name is Benny but I don't know what the Born has to do with anything. What you would call your horse and why? |

My cousin and I used to find racehorses' names very amusing. We decided Slobberchops would be a good one! nell |

There was a horse who won the Derby a few years ago, called Benny The Dip. Anyone connection to yours, Dan? |

It may be an Urban Legend, but there's supposed to be one called "Hoof Hearted". |

There is actually an 18 character limit to any registered racehorse name in this country and certain names such as 'The Winner' aren't allowed for obvious reasons, neither are controversial ones such as 'Vote Labour' (true story actually). However there are ways of bending the rules slightly, there was a racehorse once called 'Kybo' and it turned out that the name was an acronym for 'Keep Your Bowels Open'. I'll hang my anorak up now, lol. |

Yes, I was just checking on the length limit and found: For example, the Jockey Club specifies that names for foals must consist of no more than 18 letters, must not use initials (like C.O.D.) or numerals (except numbers above 30 which are spelt out), trade names, names of “notorious” people, titles of copyright books, films or plays, or “names that are suggestive or have a vulgar or obscene meaning.” However, owners or trainers sometimes manage to christen their horses with suggestive names like Passing Wind and Peony’s Envy because the administrators don’t realise that a name is naughty. The trainer Thomas Tate confessed that he named a horse Haditovski, because “it was during the time of President Clinton’s faux pas and we got the name from Private Eye who gave Monica Lewinski the nickname Haditovski. I don’t think Weatherbys realised that it was rude, so I got away with it.” |

Champion, or Flicka, or Fury. The names remind me of horses in books in my childhood. Joy |
