The Wolves of Savernake by A.E. Marston. Nowhere near as good at Edward Marstons Restoration murder mystery series or his latest series about a 19th century police detective. |

I'm afraid that due to short term memory and concentration problems, I only read modern fiction nowadays - you know the sort of light escapism that you don't need to think about! Reading the latest Jill Mansell, but also still dipping into my Christchurch Workhouse book! Mandy :) |

Hiya Sue, Martina Cole...My friends wife went to school with her,so I think most of her books are almost factual. My wife has read all her books, and loves them because many of the places she mentions,we can associate with. Baz |

Baz if you like Martine Cole try an author called Mandasue Heller! She is a new author and is in a similar style to Martine Cole but a little bit more raw..if you know what I mean! She has only done a couple of books but they are brilliant! Bev |

Being an insomniac,I read most of the night away.I like good Mysteries and historical novels-If I can get the two combined I'm happy. The Falco-Roman Detective Books by Linsay Davis are good and fun to read-but they need to be read insequence as a theme does run through them all. As it does with the Alphabet Detective Novels by Sue Grafton.I have the whole set of thes and as I finish the last one I can almost begin with the first again.I really enjoy them. At the moment I am reading the Lynly Detective novels and find the watered down TV interpretation of them infuriating. The books are much better Ian Rankin is a great favourite with the Rebus Detective books, and I also collect John Grisham and Michael Connelly.I am afraid I was very dissappointed in the recent Don Browns, they went straight in the carrier bag for the book stall Happy reading everyone-Thanks for some ideas too I like the sound of the Edward Marston books.-Rose |

Did any of you read Patricia Cornwall? I liked her books to begin with but she got very, very dark. Then she did that Jack the Ripper prog.on TV and I thought what a funny benny she was in a disturbing way.I don't read her books now. Dorset's own Minette WALTERS books are good and I like Michael Dibden too. We have a great stall on Bridport market where you can keep recycling paperbacks for about 1.50 as long as they are clean.I take a carrier bag and swap them in for another lot |

Hi Bev, I have just finished reading The Pianist by Wladyslaw Szpilman. It is about his experiences in the Warsaw Ghetto. Has anyone seen the film? It is a very harrowing story. I am now reading a local history book about Lilley(where my ancestors are from). I am also half way through Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. Lucia :-) |

Rose - I started off on the Falco books! Have you tried Rosemary Rowe's books about Libertus? Set in Roman Britain, they're not bad. I find Saylor a bit too gritty and gory for my tastes but hes another Roman murder mystery person. |
