Veronica - we should not have to delete our own threads to keep the site running smoothly, only if we want to do so. Joy

I agree these boards are getting so slow, I forget who I am looking for by the time the page show, I am on broadband but it makes no difference.

I thought it was just my computer playing up. Ancestry was very slow but GR is worse this evening than I have ever known it. I know the site has to be maintained, but as someone else said, why don't they post a message to that effect. Rosemary(Essex)

I mailed a contact at GR earlier and have been told that the techies are looking into the problem. I can ask no more than that... lets hope they fix it soon :)

Hi All, Just emailed my complaint, it seems to be getting worse day by day and I hav'nt seen any explanations as to why. If we can't add our names to our trees or check name summary or use the massage boards(oops I mean message boards, but maybe thats what the boards need 'a massage'!!!) Oh well moan moan moan moan moan moan moan - feel better now. Maggie

... that's the answer they usually have given me, Paul. Joy

and I'm sure it's true Joy. As a "techie" myself, we rely on faults being reported, and when we do get problems reported, there isn't always an obvious fix. Sometimes it takes a while to get to the bottom of it ! Also... sometimes changes are required, and these can't always be applied immediately - for instance if a server needed an additional CPU, then a) it would have to be ordered (these things don't grow on trees) and b) the server would have to be taken down to install it. Annoying for us "end users" but hopefully it'll get resolved shortly now that they've been made aware of it.

ps, I'm not saying we don;t have a right to complain, just do it properly. contact GR to let them know theres a problem, but accept the fact that the fix might not be instant

OK I did not get answer on the Slowwwww thread so I am asking the same question here maybe someone will answer me PLEASE, I am sorry to put this in two places but there are two threads on page one about the same thing. Thanks for those who read it. patience helps, if I find its getting very slow I close the window and start again, even sometimes disconnect and retry, I have even had to restart the computer, when I've been booted off. Just a thought that came to me, and I would love to know the answer to this. If people who are not members of GR can read all the boards, they go from one post to another, switch from general to tips to records etc., that would also slow the site down, wouldn't it? so many people posting threads, answering them and adding up all the people who just read them!!! I would say that would add up to a huge amount of board use this is not even counting the amount of people using other parts of the site. Pat x I think maybe I will write to Genes and ask if the site is getting overloaded by members, does unlimited access to all boards by non members make the situation worse, (personally I think it does) could access to the boards be restricted to members only. This surely would help members access all sections of the site including the boards quicker.

Pat - yes, probably a heavy usage of the boards may be slowing things down for everybody. But, I think that the boards should be kept open for everyone - members & non-members alike. Otherwise, how would potential new members get to see what the site can offer, and hopefully take the plunge to lash out and spend the £7.50 in order to become full members? Without a constant influx of new members, the site couldn't grow - and more importantly, GR's revenue would dry up which might cause it to close altogether. The problem is probably better fixed by GR upgrading their servers to match the level of traffic that the site generates. However, they shouldn't have to wait for complaints from members before they do this! Richard
