I feel terribly sorry for Helen and her son and have left her a message on her own thread. I didnt see her original thread but I think the issue is that someones race should be irrelevant and that what happened to her son is no worse becaus they were muslim, it would have been just as bad if the boys had been white, black or whatever.

How ridiculous!! Maybe you did put a colour of the lads I can't remember, but had this item been broadcast on the local news (I haven't heard it if it has), their colour would have been announced. I think under the circumstances, your story and the worry involved must be horrific and I think it very small minded to remove the thread incase someone might feel it was racial. If any complaints were received, Helen should have been given the opportunity to remove the 'offending' word or words or GR themselves could have done so with an explanation given to Helen. Jacky

Helen, I am really very sorry to hear about what has happened to your son. Is there no support from your community? Can you not organise friends and neighbours to support your husband outside the college? Call all the t.v. stations and tell everyone that you have done so, maybe this will bring some help. I hope you get the support that you need.! Lindyxx

I would have thought asking what had happened to a thread is important irrespective of the subject . In this life you do not just accept that something has happened you want to know why. what about all the hoohar about missing threads because of colours being used? Rupert.

Elaine, I think the fact they removed the thread is enough to contact them. Helen, I do hope your son is ok.... my thoughts are with you all!

Rupert With all due respect What has it to do with Genes? Elaine x

Rupert Report 20 Jan 2005 11:28

I emailed Genes first thing this morning regarding this matter. I did not intend getting involved with this and asked Genes to let me know what has happened. This is a very serious matter and living within local TV and radio reception there has been no mention of this, which I would have thought was highly important . The matter as far as I am concerned is one for the Police and I cannot beleive that they would not take this very seriously. Am still awaiting reply from Genes. Rupert

Does he work there Helen or is he a Student? Assuming he is working there as you have mentioned money, they have a duty to give him some time off, even if he was a student they would have to do that. I would go back and tell them that your son is having some time off for a bit and that if they contest then you will go to the Citizens Advice. Come to think of it, I would go there anyway explain the situation to them and ask them whether they can advice you on what to do. I would ring the Citizens Advice first because you might need an appointment. I hope you get this sorted soon hun Sending you hugs Nicola xx

Thats abit harsh Helen. The college does have some responsibility to your son. No one is aking them to hold his hand.... just understand and, give him recovery time would be good. Go in and see them, I know I would. Deanna XX

lots of threads disappeared this afternoon due to the dodgy HTL that was being posted ! They're all on the system still, just hiding, so maybe hers is in that situation...

I was trying to add a message at about 6pm and the thread had disappeared while I was writing. I think it was Helen in Birmingham's thread. Heather
