Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 22 Jan 2005 18:37

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came along today. What a fab time we had! So good to meet some new people and also catch up on old friends. Zoe, Shelli and I went across the road to the Tower Hamlets archive afterwards and found some good stuff! I'm already looking forward to the next meet in Victoria! Maz. XX

Hi Maz You must have thought 'who's the nutter?' My daughter said that I shouldn't have just gone up and hugged you like that! She said she was so embarrased that her Mum had gone up to a stranger like that. When you went to West Ham Cemetery ages ago and found that my 5Xg-granddad was buried there, I said if I ever saw you, I would give you a hug. Which is what I did! I met my 'cousin', it was as if we had known each other all our lives. We worked out it was our 9Xg-granddads who were brothers. We went to the East London Cemetery after, and found and photographed two graves that I hadn't seen before. Bought a couple of books on Plaistow and Canning Town for Mum's 70th birthday in March. I thoroughly enjoyed today. Sandra (from Aldershot)

It was really nice to put faces to names. Sorry I couldn’t actually join you for a chat, but thanks to everyone who came to say hello. We were made very welcome, despite coming from sarf of the river! I couldn’t believe how fast the day went. If it’s held next year, I must remember to wear thermals and thick socks, though! B
