You all cope well with SONS- in- law............. Why are DIL's so difficult? Are we seen to be in competition for the affection of one man? Can't we share him? Is it easier for DILs to understand MILs, when they've had a son of their own? I am a (failing) MIL to son's wife (American) and all overtures of friendship/affection have been rebuffed. But, as she is over 4000 miles away, we have had little time to get to know one another, on a day to day basis. She was also brought up by her father (after parents divorced) until her teens....... I am having to cut off from both son and wife, for my own sanity, which is sad.....and we haven't even got to my role as a grandma, yet! And I LOVE kids. Please, all of you, give your MIL's the benefit of the doubt sometimes, we're not all evil witches! Dilys

I think you are all very lucky really...I HAD THREE M-I-Ls.!!!!! The 1st knitted my first baby a BLACK matinee jacket from some spare wool she had knitted school jumpers with!!! The 2nd bought us a METAL MOP BUCKET as a wedding present !!! And the 3rd is as I said below....just a ... "nasty, evil, wicked old witch" !!! Thats what you get though for getting married 3 times!!! My son in laws call in regularly for a coffee, and are always there for me...love em to pieces!!! and my D-I-L too..!!!

Arrogant,self-centred,spiteful,devious shrew.-Rose This is because of the way she treats my husband, not me.I can deal with her,but she has never cared for my husband or his sister.
