Daisy, no I am the lucky one, last weekend I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers "to cheer up a miserable winter day", from son, DiL and children, but I know who will have thought of it. Incidentally I have always been careful not to criticize her in any way to our son and not to criticize even if I don't agree with how they bring up the children. not that there is anything to criticize really but all generations do things differently. I also make a point of telling her what a good mother she is. Actually she is a member of this site but doesn't come on often. Hugs J!!! Oh yes, i get on OK with our son in law too. Ann Glos

one year we popped in just before xmas to take m i l her pressie ect. She had the cheek to sit there, write out a card from a pack, wasnt even a nice looking card (bells I think urgh) and put in it To David, wife & kids !!!!!!!!! surprised she remembered his name too lol Elaine x

my ex mum law was kind caring, loving true friend and still is. Even to the extent that she buys birthday and xmas presents for me, husband and our 3 boys as well as her grandaughter. She welcomes my children from this relationship and she welcomes my husband. He loves going the because she does him wonderful home cooked meals!!! I any one asks how many grnadkids she has she includes all of them!!!!! And may i point out i was the one who broke the marriage to her son. can't put what i thinkof my husbands mother, but if she tells me I MUST call her mum one more time!!!!!!!!!!!

I am my M-i-L favorite when I agree with her and she is the perfect M-i-L as when I need her she is only an email or phone call away, but we have nearly 200 miles distance between us, so not in each others faces... best way to have it nice space... Bev

Not five polite ones that could be shown on this site. I would like to say that I know Ann from Glos is a wonderful mother-in-law who has a wonderful daughter-in-law in return. I wish she were mine! My MIL has done nothing but cause trouble for us since the day my husband told her that he had proposed (22 years ago). And yet he'd already left home, so I wasn't 'taking him away', and - like Old McDonald - she doesn't care for my husband either! They have always very obviously favoured my husband's younger sister. When he plucked up the courage a year or two ago to ask why they preferred her, he was told that 'she interacts better with us' - whaaaaat?? Although they are retired with no ties, it is too far for them to drive from Norfolk to Somerset. But they drive to France and Italy!!!!!! Must get off my soapbox before I fall ...... Mandy :)

My mother-in-law died when I was five months' pregnant with my second child and I miss her terribly. I don't think a day has passed when I haven't thought of her. I don't know if I could sum her up in 5 words, but if I could: artistic talkative lively caring enquiring nell
