We didn't spend much at all. I never ever wanted a church or white wedding do. We went to the register office with about twenty people there, then ahd a drink in a pub afterwards. didn't even hire a photographer, just got a friend to take pics. We had a reception at night time though with about 60 for the meal and another 100 joining us later. Honeymoon was a caravan in Morar(Highlands) in October. As you can imagine it was bloomin' freezing. BTW Kerry when my brother was stationed at Lyneham, he took us over to Bradford-Upon-Avon, what a lovely place. Christine

We were married in August 1975, at a registry office after applying for a special licence. We didn't tell anyone until 2 days before the wedding. We had lots of love, but very little money, about a fiver each for something new to wear, so I bought a dress and he bought a shirt and tie. Altogether, with the ring, we spent about £50, his wages for the week. That's the equivalent of about £250 today. We spent the first night of our honeymoon on the back seat of the car (and yes, it was very romantic!), drove to the coast in the morning, traipsed round looking for somewhere to stay then stopped for some lunch in a local hotel. The barmaid was the owner's daughter and we got chatting, told her we'd just got married but couldn't find anywhere in our price range. Her dad took pity on us and said we could stay in his caravan, free of charge, which was in the garden, and he threw breakfast in as well, for the next 4 days! We have some wonderful memories of that week, and I wouldn't change a thing. Carole

my wedding cost 2500 pounds in 1995 we had a register office wedding and an evening party at the local rugby club nothing fancy but my best friend got married in 2000 and i was maid of honour hers cost a whopping 18000 pounds but she was the only daughter and what she wanted she had, and what a wedding it was, she told me her dad donated 5000 pounds to the church on top of the cost of everything else so the total was more like 23000

Not a lot....we took a day off work....my dress a mini from Chelsea Girl was 1.99 (white embroderie anglais) - one taxi for me, future hubby and two witnesses - cake made by me and a meal at a local pub. The investment was worth it - 34 years this year

Beverley, my wife made her wedding dress, with her retired dressmaker mums help. Brown velvet with a 1960's flower pattern, very svelte and figure hugging. cost about a fiver! And it still fits 34 years later!

Oh, less than £50 - can't really remember. Registry office, friday, cake and wine back at her mums and then down to her sisters flat in Bromley for the weekend. Back to work Monday. flash weddings seem such a waste of money! We stuck ours down as a deposit on a house! That was 34 years ago and we are still in love!

Hi Kerry,In 1981 my dress was £400, the lisence was £15,we used our own cars and ferried our children and parents to the church for the blessing,my flowers were silk and cost £8.50 and I still have them.We had a brilliant Wedding Reception at our farm which we prepared ourselves. We had no honeymoon as we had a farm with 3,000 sheep and were up the next day at 5am. It was a wonderful time which I look on with fondness, some lovely memories. We celebrate our silver wedding 2006. Have a great wedding -Rose

Hi Kerry, It is not the actual wedding day it is what happens after, I have friends that have spent thousands on weddings but then they are no longer together, I have friends that have spent very little and they are still together, in answer to your question our wedding which was in 1971 was £100 for a buffet for 100 guests, and we are still together after 34 years, Sue...............
