Well, British English "fag End" means "tail End" So the end of a cigarette end got called a fag. |

OK Baz Collins Millennium ed. dictionary doesn't give derivation, but in addition to being a cigarette, it can mean effeminate, or a boy who serves other boys at public school, or something exhausting - ie its a fag wading through gRO indexes. nell |

Another meaning Fag Chiefly in the U.K. and Australia, as far as I know. Probably short for "faggot" as in "a bundle of sticks used for fuel." |
