Any advice? We have decided to replace our ancient tumble dryer which bangs mightily when drying. You choose the time kength and hotter or cooler.
All the new ones seem to have around 16 programmes. We want to just bung in the washing and dry it ( having taken out anything that can’t tumble dry).
Any advise on a simple vented one please?
We have using the easiest choice a lot lately - washing line in the gsrden :-D

Hi Names, I have just bought a new vented tumble dryer last week. Its an 8kg Indesit.
Has a timer in minutes from 20-150, high heat or low and has reverse action drying too. Very simple and exactly what I needed. Was £220 I think.

I bought it from Amazon

I have a Beko sensor condenser dryer which is brilliant. No outside vent needed and it switches off as soon as the washing is dry so saving energy. All my appliances are this make and no problems at all. I have had Beko products for many years and they have always been reliable and good value for money :-)

Thanks LG, but as we have a big hole in the outside wall it seems sensible to get a vented one.

It is really the simplicity we want rather than umpteen. programmes. We usually hang the washing out so often it is just a short finishing off. If the rains ever come back then it is the whole load.

(Maybe it is just that I don’t like machines telling me what to do ;-) )

They do a vented one too I think Names

Are you sure the dryer needs replacing? They can sound awful banging and even moving if the vent piping is blocked even slightly. Sometimes all that is needed is a good cleaning of the piping.

I have just read the op properly Names check the drive belt it may be stretched and not turning the drum properly .

Edit OH has just said it might be the drum bearing, we had to put a bearing in our washing machine that was banging about.

Thanks to you both, I’ll pass that on. But it is nearly 20 years old.

I have a smaller sized Creda with the vent through the door. It is still going strong and I bought it in 1988.

It was not expensive and the reason I bought it was that I had originally bought the same in 1971 but handed it over to a relly in 1977 when we moved and when we returned to the UK in 1988 we discovered it was still working well.

I am not sure whether the Creda brand is still in existence but I think it may have been taken over by Hotpoint who may have stopped its manufacture. (What would be the point if you can’t sell many because they last too long!)

Names
Good idea to actually take a look at them, if that's possible and to open and close the doors.
That's what I did, when I needed to buy one about 5 years ago.
Some felt rather flimsy, others more sturdy.

That's brilliant, Bob! :-D

I had a tumble dryer about 20 years ago.
When it caught fire, I lobbed it out the door and haven't had one since.
Instead, i bought an Edwardian clothes airer - one of those wrought iron and wood numbers that sits near the ceiling.

I haven't used it for quite a few years, but am now pondering where I can put it up in my present dwelling, as I won't have many radiators on :-D

Yes, my daughters call me a bolshie old bat! :-D :-D :-D :-D

Slightly off topic but I bought a new spin dryer about three years. It removes more water even after the 1600 rpm spin on the washer.

It was bought for removing excess water from jumpers etc after hand washing as the spin programme of the washer was long and not very gentle defeating the whole object of a gentle hand wash.

OH knows it is the bearing :-| But is ignoring and is not interested in looking at getting it mended or getting a new one.

I wonder how he wil feel after todays load goes into the machine.

Edit: bother - a long rest has done it a world of good.
