Mostly iplayer is for viewing programs that have been recorded. However you can view the live BBC channels but there is a delay. You can pause and go back if you wish, and then catch up during boring bits.

Even watching via a digital TV there is a few seconds delay most noticeable on New Year's eve when the fireworks in your street start while the TV program is still counting down.

Florence, I have no idea why I thought you were in the Orkneys and even farther-out Shetland crossed my mind - but only because I went to school with someone who has lived there for years - and is still there for all I know. My curiosity has been aroused now.

As I wrote, though, it’s good that you’ve cleared up the mystery.

surely iplayer is a replay of a pre recorded program...
there IS option of setting a PC, to " internet time"

Watching BBC TV via iplayer on my PC, I find it is about 1 minute 30 seconds behind real time.

If your contact views TV via the internet it could explain why they are two minutes late.

Yes I still am Florence in the Hebrides, no plans to change. Orkneys are far right from me and up further!

Florence in the "very foggy" Hebrides tonight

Florence is well west of the Orkneys - she always used to be Florence in the Hebrides :-D

Good that you’ve sorted it, Florence.

I wondered whether you were in the Orkneys, by the way, but I was guessing.

I see you asked about the Meridian. It is the Prime Meridian (which somewhat supersedes Greenwich) and it does not pass through Scotland at all - which is why I asked whether you were east of the line ie Orkneys - even though I have no idea whether they are east or west of the line cos it loses me when it leaves the mainland.

I remember snippets of useless information from my geography lessons. :-S

nameslessone Report 7 Jul 2022 15:21

I’m with the ‘where do they get their signal from’ camp. Don’t you remember when FM was always out of sinc with digital?

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 7 Jul 2022 15:09

East and west of the meridian will be slightly different time wise. Are you east of it, Florence?
