It's a pity GR can't remember that a poppy is for remembrance.

We will remember

A bit early for Genes. It will be next week - if they remember.

Pat .....................

I think it is a bit early to ask this, there's never been a change as a result of either this request or the one at Christmas.

They do it in their own good time, closer to the 11th, which is Thursday next week.

For most of the world that recognise it, Remembrance is not celebrated on the Sunday and that does seem to have an effect on GR

Sorry, JoyL!!

Sylvia, do you mean Pat and not me? :-D

I agree with you, Sylvia, most of the world (that I know of anyway) sticks to 11th - which, I think, is more in the real spirit of Remembrance than moving it to a Sunday to suit the diaries of various VIPs.

If I remember correctly in the past Genes have said we need to remind them each time we wish to see something displayed...because Nov 11th and Dec 25th don't happen every year!!

‘Baubles’ :-|

I don't know why anyone frets about GR not putting up poppies and Christmas decs.
We know they don't give a monkey's about the members or important dates.
I think the boards look much better and show more respect when members change their avatars appropriately - if they wish to.

Pat, if GR have to be reminded it would be an empty gesture imo.

I don't agree it's too early. A few years ago we were told the poppy didn't go up because the IT guys weren't given enough time to do it - there's a week to go. Poppies are on sale and people are wearing them. FMP has never bothered and Ancestry is an American business

FMP have had a poppy, it used to have a circular logo at the top left hand side and the poppy was on that :-) That logo has now disappeared, perhaps they are trying to think where to put it now ;-)

You were quick off the mark, spotting that, Belle. No flies on you, eh! <3 :-D

Maybe they are waiting for the eleventh day of the
eleventh month to remember them.

Heres' a poppy...

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 Nov 2021 17:09

Emma ........ that's when we remember!

That's the day of ceremonies at Cenotaphs, parades, thousands of people participating, and the veterans are treated with free meals at restaurants, free parking, free transit, even free taxi rides.

Tomorrow means nothing to us, except that this year all the flags on Federal buildings across the country (plus many other buildings) that were lowered back in May to honor and respect the missing Indigenous children whose graves have been found, will be raised.

They will fly until Thursday when they will be lowered for Remembrance Day.

November 8 is Indigenous Veterans Day, first called National Aboriginal Veterans Day when it was first started in 1994.

It honours in particular Indigenous fighters in WW1, WW2 and the Korean War.

Anyone hear about the "code whisperers" in WW2???

If not, Google them. It's a fascinating story!
