Cockles seem not to be as good as they were.Saturday morning Dad used to get cockles from Macfisheries and we would eat them dowsed in vinegar and black pepper. Nowadays they just seem watery so now just give me a bowl of mussels.

If i could afford it, i could happily live on most seafood except for oysters, cockles etc

Crabmeat especially the brown meat is just to die for mmmn

That’s probably why I forgot to add in the lobster, Allan. So I can keep it for myself :-D

I sometimes have cheese on my baked beans, but not at the moment as I am trying to loose weight.

The meals I would really enjoy is a decent roast beef and all the trimmings or a big seafood platter with smoked salmon, prawns, shrimps, smoked fish, langoustines, crab and maybe I could cope with an oyster.

Well, Sharron. whenever i have beans on toast, i always have grated cheese on top!

Allan .................. Kanga steaks were apparently a staple food in the Australian "residential schools" that Islanders attended. One of the faculty wives that I was particularly friendly with back in 75/76 had attended one, and said she couldn't face kanga steak ever again!!

I loved kangaroo meat that I've had, although only 2 or 3 times ......... just as I love venison, moose, etc .......... all the ones I listed in an earlier post.

I wasn't taken with BBQ'd rattlesnake, however. Too many small bones :-D


OH used to make Summer Pudding as a standard dessert when we had people over for dinner .................. no-one here knew of it, and loved it. In more recent years, he's relied on English Trifle, well laced of course :-D . People here knew of it, but many had never had it.

I was given a bush recipe for cooking parrots though; apparently you boil them for hours in a large pot also containing a large rock. When the rock is tender you throw away the parrot and eat the stone, hence the derivation of rock cakes :-D

Have to agree, Allan, as is ostrich.

Kangaroo steak is nice, as is venison.

Baked beans with cheese is the very droppings of the devil!

I dip my chips in mayo yum.

I must say, I don't see any differences in tastes here - it all looks like trad UK cooking to me :-\

Never heard of anyone doing that, Gwyn. Always salt and vinegar for me - one of the few things I add salt to. My BP is always low so I only started adding salt on my plate to lift it without having to resort to the horrible salt tablets one doc prescribed for me!

I’ve heard of that Florence but never done so myself.

Gwyn, up here they put cheese on chips yeuuk!!! :-P

Reminds me of when I first got to know my Irish friend, who always put butter on her chips :-S

I make my own, Florence.

They’re very easy to make; stand in the fridge overnight, bring out and serve with cream.

On the day I come to yours for my starter, dessert will be the course you don’t even have to think about as it will be ready to serve. :-D

I wouldn't want commercial baked beans but have been known to make them. In fact, I have twice served them at the parish lunch.

Aw some lovely choices there.

How about we arrange a "night" out all together having our favourite meal. Can you image all of us out together? My, some evening that would be and a lot of fun.

I think that the choices here actually reflect how different we all are.

I mean, i love all fish, prawns etc and my ex was a fisherman.
Those that grow their own veg etc would probably eat more than others maybe?

Someone thought that swede or turnip as they call it up here would be more sorted to gravy dishes? I cut it into batons as i do the carrots and serve together as i hate anything mashed.Dont like the texture of mashed food.

Sharon, I have some veggie/cheese pasties in the freezer which i only recently found in the coop. They are actually quite tasty served with veg.

Ah, but, Allan., there’s beans on toast and beans on toast!

I hope you have beans on toast with Vegemite spread on top of the butter then the beans with a good dollop of butter on top when you give them to your OH.

A small plop of HP on top of the lot will be the icing on the beans. ;-) :-D
