References for certificates give you the quarter, the registration district and the page and volume number. All of which you need to order a copy. There might be an error with yours. Check it out on the free site www.freebmd.org.uk |

Not sure quite what you mean but, personally, I always note the quarters of the year events were registered as, for example, Q1 (Jan, Feb, March) rather than either QJ or QM so there is no muddle as I have seen one site use the first month of the quarter and another site use the last month of the quarter which, I think leads to confusion. |

An illegitimate child whose parents later married each other legitimised the child so a new certificate would be issued in the married surname |

Shirley they were legitimised by the act of getting a new certificate. If you didn’t get one then you were still classed as illegitimate. |

thanks guy i am researching an aunt that was adopted not 100% sure where or when but constance was my great nans name and m could have been for maty my nans name. we believe so was born out of wedlock but i dont think i am going to get the answers as i have so little details not sure where to go from here |
