Gwyn in Kent Report 17 Jul 2021 14:06

I've never seen a kite Von.
That sounds great.

Did you see them all on the TV programme with Michael Ball in Wonderful Wales?

Von

Von Report 17 Jul 2021 14:36

We have lots of kites in the area now. Since being reintroduced in Wales they have

made their way up the M4 corridor.
We have a pair near the house but it’s great to watch them flying about.
Probably not so good for the small mammals and birds they take out :-(

Island

Island Report 17 Jul 2021 14:50

Kites mostly eat carrion Von.

Von Report 17 Jul 2021 16:01

Island not sure there’s much carrion in our suburban gardens but they must eat something
Copied and pasted from this site.

https://www.chilternsaonb.org/uploads/files/AboutTheChilterns/Red%20Kites/Red_Kite_factsheet.pdf

Red kites eat mainly dead animals that they are able to find (carrion), being too weak-footed to kill any prey much bigger than a small rabbit. They will also feed on chicks, small mammals and invertebrates such as beetles and earthworms.
The kite hunts by flying low over open country, using the forked tail to steer, twisting it like a rudder. Live prey is usually caught by surprise rather than speed, although kites sometimes make fast, twisting chases.
