They certainly weren’t names which is one of the reasons I stepped aside. You’d think that they could have shown good manners and good sense to leave enough room for people to pass safely. I wonder how they’d treat their own grandmothers?

If it was an open air car park they didn’t need to wear masks. But I bet they weren’t social distancing from each other.

Some forget how we were screaming at Boris in March 2020 to lock down and he took his time doing so, dragging his feet to everyone's dismay. Now, who will really trust his judgment when he says we won't need to wear masks? He has a need to be everyone's friend which, to me, is not a requirement of being a PM.

Cases are high here and some residents are blaming students. Unsurprisingly, a photo appeared in our local paper showing a group of students all wearing masks. Good PR staff, I say for that is not my experience. A few weeks ago I was coming through a riverbanks' car park and crowds of students were returning from the regatta - I did not see one mask between the lot of them who passed me. I actually stepped aside once.

A good citizen will think of his fellow men and wearing a face mask will protect those who are more vulnerable or those who for medical reasons cannot wear any face covering. I think Boris ought still to make wearing face masks indoors in public places and on public transport mandatory.

For me, it is a no-brainer!

In Scotland the whole country is moving to level 0 on July 19th and all restrictions will be lifted on August 8th, apart from social distancing and the requirement to wear face masks in shops and on public transport.

According to Nicola Sturgeon the decision is nothing to do with the current rate of infections, but based on the vaccination roll-out.

I've been wondering why w ehaven't seen anything of Nicola down here - is this something to do with it:

Joan I think Scotland are keeping the masks and also I think the 2 metre rule.

I do (not) like the idea we will have to stop grimacing and swearing at people when out and about in future. ;-)

Masks are for protection - vaccine are to reduce the virus damage I'd you are infected. Two separate exercises

I will continue to wear mine, wherever I go and put it the same time as I put my shoes on, as I do now.
I desperately need the anonymity when moaning to people who stop suddenly right in front of my trolley in the supermarket!! Believe me, they don't need to clearly hear my cussing!

I'll continue to wear one on the bus, in shops and other confined indoor spaces. I'm asthmatic, and find it uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as covid would be. I had the AZ, so maybe not as much protection as other jabs.

No not until at least next year, same with social distancing, unless the virus has infections have gone down considerably.

Another point there Annx, last winter we were strongly encouraged to get the flu shot I'm guessing we will be again this year too. Less flu less hospital cases so catch up can carry on.

Of course, all this discussion about mask wearing may be irrelevant if they don’t confirm the decision on the 12th.

That was my first thought Kathleen. Saying it's personal choice isn't really that when others impose what they want on you by them not wearing a mask! Fine for them as you are protecting them by wearing yours, but they aren't helping protect you!

The vaccinations rollout is helping, but wearing masks would protect against flu and so reduce those cases that end up in hospital and help NHS catch up with the backlog of other than covid cases to deal with.

I will wear mine indoors and anywhere where there are crowds I can't avoid.

As of July 1, we can already go without a mask if we have received 2 vaccinations here in BC.

However, even having both vaccinations does NOT mean that you are immune, you can still catch AND pass on the covid vaccination. The double vaccination only greatly reduces your chance of catching covid and having a very severe case.

I think the mRNA reduces your risk by between 90 and 95%, AZ a little less than that.

It's like flu, you can still catch flu after having your annual shot, but it's usually a much milder case.

Therefore, I will continue to wear a mask when among people. and am convinced that my physio will still insist on it.

It's going to be a nightmare!

Andy Burnam was asked if he could enforce mask wearing on public transport in his area. He could only make tram users wear one.

I will still wear a mask in indoor public places.

I don't think it should be just personal choice. I think it should be left to companies to decide, that way if say Asda require masks and Tesco don't then I would choose the shop that requires them.

My son is a driving instructor but if he doesn't have the choice to decide whether his customers wear a mask or not it means he could be forced to spend his time in a car with people who are probably not going to wear masks. He intends to ask customers to wear a mask for as long as he can - at least over the autumn and winter period.
