Hubby used to shudder when he saw me eating such things but he is used to it now.

Mainly vegetables - particularly 'Sweetheart cabbage.

When my girls were small, we grew loads of vegetables - but there were never any runner beans or mange tout below 2 ft.
They had been eaten by the children.
...then they realised the carrots were underground....

Eldest could walk at 9 months, and took a liking to gladioli flowers (poisonous), I redirected her to the nastrutiums and marigolds.
You can see how strict I wasn't! :-D

A lot of the vitamins are destroyed with cooking, Seville oranges are very nice with salt sprinkled on.

I've not tried that but I have to avoid too much salt anyway. I like Balsamic vinegar on Strawberries

Whole onion in, suck out the vinegar. Pickled gherkins, big ones, oh yum yum!

maggiewinchester Report 24 Apr 2021 22:03

Pickled stuff - oh yes!
My mum used to pickle octopus when we lived in Malta - so it must have been my first foray into picked stuff.

And yes, I know octopus isn't a vegetable - but, for me, it led the way!
