Miserable weather here again...lashed it down this morning :-0 :-0. Getting fed up with it now especially after such a cold April

Oh Ann, it's still sunny here! :-D

OH and I spent an hour this morning with my pal of more than 72 years and her OH, sitting at a suitable distance chatting. It was lovely as we've not been that far since before March 2020. Her OH has similar health issues as my OH so we've all been very careful.

My pal lives opposite our old school. She loved school so she is ever so happy. I hated it. She told me she always gets a lift when she sees it first thing every morning. I'd always get a lift knowing it was no longer a school!

It was closed years ago, the main part and the cloisters were kept and converted to residences, as were the school fields apart from the huge field in front of the main building which means that from the front it looks as nice as it looked when we attended. The builder has done a good job.

Building work is gathering pace in the city centre - it's the first time I've been through the middle of it since before 2020 March lockdown. Some houses have lost their previously miles-long view. They must be spitting blood about that as they weren't cheap to buy.

A haircut Ann! I've just cut my own for the fifth time. It will do - but not for much longer as it is nowhere near as good as when my hairdresser does it.

The 50s, Dermot - another era! The only time I can recall a haircut in the fifties was when I got a cap cut in Liverpool around 1955 (someone began calling it the Beatles cut once they got going), after having my hair in long pigtails for years. All I'll say about it is that I let it grow long again so it was almost always in a pony tail or, as I grew older, a French pleat or chignon when I left school.

My hairdresser did a lovely bouffant every Saturday and the conversation in her shop was eye-opening. Hazel was always entertaining! I'm not sure whether her chat would be allowed now! ;-)

JoyLouise - 'Autotonsorialist' is the term given to those who cut their own hair. ;-)

You could still lie in - just tell him to wake you if he is getting up before you. I hope it works.

Afternnon peeps from a freezing cold, grey and rainy scotland! its dire isnt it? I mean we are mid may and its more like winter far less spring!
Oh Joan so sorry to hear about your hubby, he must have been frustrated trying to get back inside and as you said lucky it wasnt raining!

I havent slept much last 2 days myself but sorry for you not being able to stay in bed a bit longer. Hope his gash heals. Not wanting to go to see a nurse or dr is man thing. It is up here.

i have trimmed my fringe again and looks ok. My hair is right down my back but not to shabby lol

Cant do any more in the house really as most things are boxed except for the things we are using. Going up town on bus tom to get a few tings in the coop and get a taxi home. I need to get out of the house as been indoors nearly 10 days and need a change of scenery.

Lets all do a sun dance tonight and see what happens tomrrow :-D :-D

Having a baby at age 50 never seemed unusual to me as my grandmother was aged 50 when she had my mum (the normal way!). Mum was her 10th child and there were still 5 other children at home when mum was born, 1 daughter and 4 sons who worked in the coal mines (think of all the washing and ironing with only a copper and mangle and an iron hotted up on the fire, as well as all the cooking done on the coal fired range!) Mum was born with a hip displacement that was treated in those days with a caliper to wear which she had on till she was aged 12. She hated swimming as it was a treatment for her hip she had to have so wasn't something she thought of as enjoyment, She never went in the water on any holidays!

I hope hubby is ok now Joan. I learned my lesson about keeping my mobile with me after I went in the loft to look for a hat I wanted for a wedding coming up. The loft ladder swung forward under me and I was stranded in the loft on a hot July day and hubby was 200 miles away. It was boiling up there and OH wasn't expected home till late evening. I would have risked lowering myself and jumping the remaining distance to get down, but I'd had major surgery a couple of months before and could have undone the good work. In the end I managed to lift and drag the ladder and wedge it on the floor at almost vertical and gingerly and carefully descended. Now I tend to always keep my mobile with me, even in the garden when he's here as you never know what might happen and he doesn't usually hear me shout him!

That's good he's fine today Joan. These things do shake you up more than you would think. Yes I was in a bit of a state in the loft as it was so hot and nothing to drink and I was thinking what about toilet!! I was even wondering whether to get clothes out of the cases that were stored up there and knot them into a rope and try and shin down like in the films, but decided I was too heavy and likely to fall. Thank goodness I managed to wedge the ladder hard enough to get down. It broke the loft door off it's hinges though. One of life's lessons for me though and I never did wear the hat I was looking for after all. :-S

It's good to know that Joan's OH seems to be recovering well from his fall.

We can all think afterwards that we should have done ....... whatever, but at the time we just want to get to a place of safety and comfort.

I can relate to Ann's adventure in the loft.
Our loft was boarded and housed our PC and was where I used to work on my family history research.
One night, when everyone else in the house had gone to bed, I had gone up the loft ladder and was working away when suddenly we had a power cut. Everywhere was pitch black and after some time I was trying to decide whether to shout in the hope that someone would wake and come to help or should I gingerly try to feel my way to the loft opening and try feeling my way to the steps. That seemed too risky, so I decided to stay put until there was enough light to climb down safely.
Afterwards, a torch was kept up there ready for any similar emergencies.

Oh dear Joan, I have only just seen this but am pleased that your hubby is ok now. Realising how T suddenly with no warning started falling I am aware it can happen to anyone as we get older because he was always so strong and steady on his feet. It didn’t take much to go all down hill from there. I do now try and keep my phone with me in the garden and available when in the shower. Haven’t ventured into the loft yet though.

We are getting the removal van tomorrow and so the packing up will begin. Our sofas have gone to the council skip as they were 2nd hand and did us a turn last 4 years but have 2 new ones on order. So we are sitting on kitchen chairs in the lounge, a bit hard on the rear..lol

So i shall not be posting for awhile until the internet is connected at the new house. They have said 1st june, but we shall see.
I will be able to read the posts from mobile though.

Reading your stories about being stuck in the loft ladies must have been awful. Very hot and scary too. Even when i hang out the washing, i keep my mobile in my pocket as i still have dizzy turns.

This afternoon the sun came out and out of the wind, it really was quite warm. Heres hoping it will stay nice for the weekend as i do not fancy loading and unloading in the pouring rain. If that happens, think i might just have a meltdown!!

Joan every time my OH fell I could not get him up and like yours he had no strength, so strange when only a month before he had been working in the garden. He never fell outside, only indoors, as far as I know he never regained any strength until he died in hospital 3 months later.

Just make sure your hubby has some sort of support when outside Joan. <3 <3

We are pretty fed up here as we were supposed to go to Centre Parcs yesterday with our daughter, son in law and two granddaughters. It has had tho be cancelled because there is a positive COVID case in the class of one of the girls, so she has to self isolate for ten days. We will get the money back, but can’t rearrange it as it has to be in the school holidays and they are fully booked in the summer

Oh Linda, what a shame, I know that you were looking forward to being away together with them. I am sure that the girls are disappointed as well.
