This item is well worth a read. Anyone wanting a hard copy census form has to request it either by fone or online! Link is https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-55935409

Island ..................

actually I think I might be in a worse situation than you when it comes to my descendants trying to find me.

I have never seen a UK census form :-0

I went to university when I was 19, and after that lived in residences, digs, and/or flats until I married at 27 and left the country.

That covered the 1961 census, and I was gone before 1971, if there was one.

Island Report 4 Mar 2021 18:02

I didn't see a census form until 2001 despite owning my own home for 6 years by 1991 :-0 I left the parental home when I was 18 so will be a potential 'brick wall' for a while, oh what fun..... :-D

nameslessone Report 4 Mar 2021 16:42

By reading old newspapers!!

I mean, the 1939 register found my Cornish gran in prison - I bet she hadn't bargained on her descendants finding that out!! :-D

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 3 Mar 2021 22:28

SylviaInCanada Report 3 Mar 2021 17:53

Is the government doing anything for those people who do not speak English?

I've just realised that we're having a census in May, and I should be asking these questions about our census as well!

Kense

Kense Report 3 Mar 2021 07:36

The letter we have had says you can request a paper form at https://www.census.gov.uk or phone 0800 141 2021.

grannyfranny

grannyfranny Report 2 Mar 2021 23:33

There is a letter with a 'household code' to use online. There is also a leaflet which has lots of different ways to get in touch with them, by phone and so on. Nowhere does it say that a paper version is available, though I'm sure they will be. Apparently there are 'local support centres' who can help.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Mar 2021 22:21

I hope that they are providing for those people who do not have a computer!!

Otherwise the 2021 census will miss out a very large number of people, making the census with very incomplete results for future generations, or current use by governments etc.

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 2 Mar 2021 22:00

I read somewhere that they are expecting about 25% of households to be unable or unwilling to complete it online. 6 million paper ones have been prepared.

Elizabeth A

Elizabeth A Report 2 Mar 2021 21:47

Thanks, will look forward to getting the bumpf,
no doubt for this household, it will be down to me to fill in as per usual. :-D

grannyfranny Report 2 Mar 2021 21:40

We got our letter this morning too.
I seem to remember last time I filled it in online then printed it out to keep a copy with my FH stuff.
