When the pandemic started, and loo roll, handwash etc were panic bought, I started using a bar of soap - one of the many I have, some in the shape of 'edibles' like truffles, fairy cakes.
Well, I was using a large 'bar of soap' shaped soap.
It's lasted well, but wearing thin now.
The other day, I noticed a dirty mark in the middle - on both sides.
On closer inspection, it says 'Made in Australia'!

We all know about sticks of rock with place names through the middle - but bars of soap? :-D :-D :-D

'Now wash your hands' - a common notice/exhortation in many public loo facilities.

My daughter has just become an Avon lady. I did it for 10 years when my children were young.
Anyway struggling to find a job she can do, she started Avon last sat.
A neighbour looked at the shower gels in the sale for a £1.00 and said good value but to reduce my plastic waste, I have gone back to using good old fashioned bars of soap which sadly they do not sell.

But in a way, its true. All the shampoos. shower gels etc we use are all made in plastic bottles unless they are recylced.

I have loads of bars of soap which I am now using in the bathroom. They do seem to last longer than liquid soap.

When lockdown loomed I made sure I had some soap bars in the cupboard. I cut each bar in half and they lasted as long as a whole bar. So I will probably keep doing that.

I have some quite old bars of soap.

Generally,if somebody gives me soap (hint,hint?) I will put it away for years so it goes hard and lasts much longer.

Still have some Estee Lauder facial bars from when I worked in the factory tirty odd years ago.

We always used bars of lemon hand made soap that my son's friend used to make. We had used it for years and then she stopped making it and sold all her moulds etc.

We wondered what we were going to use instead and decided on Pears. It's reasonably cheap and a really nice soap to use.

We have loads of bars of soap because I prefer them, also inherited a load more from my mother in law, she would buy some every week so her bathroom would smell nice.
They were kept open in a display basket, so goodness knows how old some of them are.

I don't like liquid soap and always carry my own bar with me when visiting family.

During WW1 there was apparently a shortage of soap and when WW2 started, my grandmother stockpiled soap of all types. I remember visiting and you couldn't get into the cellar for piles of soap!!! According to my mother, lots of things were in short supply during the war, but soap wasn't one of them :-)

I gave up using soap because o.h. would always leave it to go soggy in the washbasin! I have loads of Avon soaps that were sold off some time ago, they are stored in a drawer and a few in the airing cupboard to harden.

I recently sent off for a special bar of soap, from Nuddy, free apart from the post and packing cost. It's for problem skin, mine has become sore due to rosacea and excema and the soap is great. O.h. Is not allowed to touch it, I want it to last lol

Liz thank you for saying about the Nuddy soap bar, I have severe atopic dermatitis and have tried many soaps so I shall give this one a try. :-D :-D

I have not tried it yet but there is African black soap available on-line which is supposed to be very good for problem skin.

I use aqueous cream on my face - I'm allergic to lanolin.

Palmolive makes me scabby.

One place I worked had Palmolive in the lavatory. Unfortunately, I was using white suds (cutting oil) and I reacted to that as well, so when I washed it off, I just got scabbier.

Sharron, I use Liquid African Black Soap as my shower gel. I get it from Akoma Skincare. The owner of the company is a customer of my son and they happened to be talking about my eczema (have no idea why!) so he told my son about it and that some people find it good for eczema.

I've used it now for a few years and my skin doesn't get half as sore as it once did.

Oooh yuk!

I'm fortunate, in that it's only my face (around the eyes to be precise) that is affected by lanolin - but most of the soaps/cleansers that claim they're 'gentle' and 'hypoallergenic' are lanolin based :-(

The Liquid African Black Soap doesn't seem to have lanolin in the ingredients. This is what they say:-

Ingredients: Aqua (Distilled Water), *Butyrospermum Parkii (Akoma Raw Shea Butter Organic), *Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil Wet Milled Fairly Traded), Potassium Hydroxide (Lye Potash / Gyekisi mixed with water).

Sounds interesting, Kath but what's the price compared to Aqueous cream in Poundland! :-D :-D

It's certainly not cheap - £7.34 for 250 ml - but I'm worth it :-D :-D :-D :-D
