OH and I have very different interests. He sometimes tells me something about what 'the lads' have done or won or something and I make some sort of noise that indicates that I have heard him without conveying any interest.

For my part, I don't even hope that anybody else might be interested in what entertains me but I tell him about exciting things I have discovered or thought might be possible and he also makes an appropriate noise.

Not this morning! I don't know what he was up to but, quite excitedly, I told him that cogs had been used as battleships in the Battle of Sluys and he asked what the date of the battle was! I hadn't really noticed that, I wasn't looking. I had to look it up again to tell him.

What did he want to know that for? I don't ask how many they scored.

This is all very disconcerting. I don't know if I can handle him showing interested.

Could it be that he is actually interested for himself.

Sharron

Sharron Report 16 Jul 2020 18:43

No.

He has sensible interests.

Sharron

Sharron Report 16 Jul 2020 23:06

Now, what is it I need to ask him to sound interested?

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 16 Jul 2020 23:22

Oh Sharron, what it would have been to have been a fly on your wall all these years!

Your dialogue with your family members sounds fascinating!

This is the problem, Liz, It is not supposed to be dialogue. It is meant always to be statement and grunt, not statement and interested question.

That throws the whole dynamic out of kilter. I don't know what I am supposed to do after that.

Umm...... what was it that drew you to each other if you have no mutual interests?
Keep it clean, there may be a lurker........ lurking.

Who managed to get most rotund objects to hit the distorted fishing apparatus?

Whenever there is a strange noise or bad language you rush in and ask if he is alright and whether he has hurt himself. Once you’ve discovered that it only that odd ball game you ask him how it is going, what the score is, who scored. What league are they in. Will they be moving up or down.

Wow, you could go on for hours :-D

Island, his mother told him he had to have me because I was a parish councilor and I worked in a cosmetic factory with access to cheap cosmetics. he was sold out for a bottle of Youth Dew!

for my part, I was very busy and had no time to organize his departure and his mother had begun to very much regret her introduction by then and that was a big bonus!

Sharron

Sharron Report 19 Jul 2020 18:13

I did my best. I asked "Is it finished?".

I'm liking your style Sharron. An aunt of mine used to swag about her teenage daughters boyfriend then backtracked furiously when the relationship looked like lasting. I suspect my cousin dug her heels in and married the guy just to pee her mother off. It didn't last.
