It's 7 days if you are on your own, 14 days if two plus, to see if other family members develop symptoms.

You beat me to it Sheila. If there are several in the family and their isolation periods overlap some of them could be in isolation for quite a long while. The NHS site explains it and the BBC has a diagram on its site.

Anyway, seven days of fourteen (OZ PM did go home to his wife and young daughter) makes no difference to the fact that he should have self-isolated according to the 'Guidelines' (Rules) laid down for the rest of us

I think I read somewhere that here in Canada now they're not doing the 2 test after the 14 days to clear you, they're looking at your health/symptoms then deciding if it's safe to release you so to speak. It's to free up tests for the are they sick brigade.

Our problem here was anyone coming into Canada was politely asked to stay home for 14 days, many didn't. If they'd all stayed home then a lot if not all of our community spreading wouldn't have happened. Now they're being ordered to stay home but how that will be enforced who knows and it's a drop in the ocean compared to how many came home these past few weeks. Right now we're telling people to social distance most are so in a couple of weeks we might see some results....but enough aren't so who knows.....

Same story in Oz, Caroline, exacerbated by the fact that we have had heaven knows how many cruise ships entering and disgorging thousands of passengers, may of whom have then travelled interstate.

Rules now are if you enter Oz by any means there is a mandatory 14 day isolation period, paid for by the Feds, and then a further fourteen days when you return to your home state.

International passengers are transferred under police escort directly to airports from where they are flown out to their own countries

The idea of self isolation has gone out of the window for Australians returning here because so many were abusing the system by 'just calling into the shops to stock up' on the way to self isolate

Many of those now returning started their cruises after the outbreak started

I can see how the tests are very necessary, but surely you could be tested one day and found to not be infected, then pick the virus up the next day?

I asked the pet question because this household has six cats !! :-S

others say yes.

There is some evidence that the transfer has happened in at least 3 cases, one in Hong Kong. One of the cases was a suggestion that the pet was a cat.

Problem is .............. there are no tests for the pets. So basically it is someone's opinion that the pet is suffering the same symptoms.

Well not my cat anyway; he's been self isolating for a few years now :-D

He's fifteen and rarely goes out. He prefers to sleep all day then thinks it's a great game to annoy me all night :-|

his partner is said to be at Chequers. Makes sense for her not to be at Downing Street.

Same as our PM's wife has been declared free of covid-19 after about 2½ weeks quarantine, so she has taken the 3 children to Harrington Lake, which is their weekend retreat.

But what I still do not understand is how Boris can come out of isolation after only 7 days.

Things are sooooooooooo much stricter here. Our PM said in his daily address this morning that he still has to stay in isolation until 14 days after the day Sophie was declared healthy.

By that time he will have been isolated in Rideau Cottage for almost 5 weeks.

Surely there must be a danger that a pet could be carrying the virus on its fur if stroked by someone with covid-19, for some time after the event.
