Very hot again, and smoky, here today with a major bush-fire about twenty five miles away affecting the area around the town of Collie.

The temps are supposed to be cooling a bit over the next few days, thank goodness.

The start to December has been the hottest on record in WA :-(

Apart from the blanket of smoke, we are unlikely to be affected by the bush-fires, but of course the poor firefighters, mostly volunteers, both here and in the Eastern Sates, do a magnificent job. No praise is high enough :-)

Allan, during the last Vic fires, our friend's son, who is in the Melbourne Fire Brigade, was one of those who slept by the roadside near the fires. For several days he never got home to Melbourne.

I am full of admiration for all of them as it was bad enough driving home from work through smoke and seeing the fires from the back of our house, so being virtually on top of them is bravery in my book.

JoyLouise, One high class hotel (for Collie, which is a coal mining town) has thrown open its doors for those volunteers from outside the area

Hotel staff have come in to prepare meals, make up rooms etc at no cost. As you know, the whole community pitches in during times like these.

Well done the owners and staff at that hotel.
