The other morning I posted on the Quizzes and Games Thread when there was a flash of lightning, a crack of thunder which sounded as though the gates of Hell had been breached, and then.....nothing; the power had gone off.

The weather, and power, have been the same until today when I that I might chance my arm, my modem, and my machine, and re-establish contact with the outside world :-D

June started out as a fabulous month, which is just as well as we attended my nephew's Wedding (open air) at the Perth Zoo.

But since then nothing but cold wet weather :-|

Apparently, Perth has had its wettest June for fourteen years :-0

That Quizzes and Games board is nowt but trouble, I say nowt but bother :-0

We must have had the wettest June in the UK since forever, then today it was way too hot to sit outside :-0

Well in all fairness to us Aussies, it is our winter

We've had another "driest month since whenever" in British Columbia and other p[arts of Canada

BC is in drought situation all over, wild fire status mostly high to extreme, including here on the wet coast.

There have already been 419 wild fires in BC

11,278 hectares have burnt since April 1 2019

Unfortunately, most of the fires have been human caused ............ lit cigarettes discarded carelessly, sparks from vehicles and off-roaders, etc

Quite a wet spring here and yet still blooming hot....we're never happy are we :-D

of course not!!!

One predictable thing about our unpredictable weather is - someone will say 'we're never happy are we?' :-S
At least the 'gardens need the rain' brigade wisely kept it zipped - they would likely have been lynched :-D

Island :-D...our favourite comment all winter is "Kick me if I moan it's too hot in summer"..then in Summer "Oh well at least you don't shovel rain"....

Caroline ................ are your summers getting wetter or hotter, or both?

Ours are definitely getting hotter and drier, yet we are officially in a Temperate Rain Forest :-0

Last spring/summer was hot and dry so far this spring/summer it's been hot and wet.

Madge, the daytime temps, in our part of Oz (SW of WA) have not been rising higher than 13C during the day, and there was even a light dusting of snow on the Stirling Ranges.

As for rain I should say that we have averaged just over an inch a day.

Temps for the first few days of July are forecast to be higher.

Pea and Ham soup for meals today :-D

Friends in Canberra have reporting low temps ............... -5C in the morning.

Winter in OZ can be cold!!!

Sylvia, Canberra, due to where it is situated, can have a wide variance of summer and winter temps.

I once had to spend a few days there one summer when I was attending some meetings. By the time I had walked to the Dept. where the meetings were being held, I wished that I had a change of shirt as I was soaking wet.

No, it wasn't raining, but it was hot with exceptionally high humidity :-S

been there, done that!!!

At least people have now got air conditioning and heaters ...... more than they had back in 75/76 when we lived in Oz :-|

I was colder in Melbourne in August than I had been on the edge of the Pennines, with only a coal fire and no central heating. All we had in Melbourne was a 1 bar electric fire.

And we melted in Queensland in March with no air conditioning, even though all we used here were fans, no air conditioning.

I remember lying in bed in a motel in Townsville, looking up at the ceiling and watching the ceiling fan lazily turning around, and then becoming aware that a gecko was making its way across, right above my head :-D
