There are number of programmes available, some free others to purchase. Many people use Family Tree Maker which links to Ancestry.

My personal favourite is Family Historian. That links to FMP which means, as I have a sub, I can see the actual records instead of an outline hint.

Both FTM & FH can be used as stand-alone programmes - don't allow them access to the internet.

Reviews for some of them -

sounds good. How do I make an offline tree?

How on earth do you check 30.000 birth/baptisms and perhaps 4 to 5000 marriages.

Were they viewed & attached via your subscription? Once your subscription expires, you will lose access to them. We advise that they are downloaded to your own device while you have access, then upload them to your keepsafe.

I’m not entirely sure if media (photos, certificates, census images) can be attached to a tree on FMP. Perhaps someone else can advise?
Apparently a gedcom download will come with the ‘events’ recorded but not the actual images.

Many of us use an offline tree as our ‘Master’ version. We can download & attach what ever we like to that.

I have 1000's of BMD certs and census records for nearly 30.000 people saved with GR. How can I transfer these to FMP.

With reported posts, as we are all different with different levels of tolerance, the person reviewing may be more lenient and reinstate while the person less tolerant will delete.

I actually have had no problem with getting a response within five days to an email.

GR, apparently, monitor some posts.

I am on a long running good natured thread about my wife's travel 'problems'

One post was recently reported, heaven knows why, as there is absolutely nothing offensive on any of the posts.

A day later the post was reinstated.

Either you’d have to start building your tree again, or you’d need to upload a copy of your GR gedcom. Which is where we came in!

If I change to FMP will all my records change over to FMP

Glengyle, the gedcom export should be automatic. Unfortunately they occasionally get ‘hung up’. That’s where Support comes in, to arrange a download reset.

Because GR is the poor sister to FMP :-S

NB Detective 16th June 13.22 for explanation :-)

Tha's all fine for emails but I thought exporting Gedcom files was automatic?
Obviously not!
And why is someone from FMP aswering me???

................. and I don't think they are actually reading a reported post to see if it was legit.

More like ..................

"Hey you, your job this morning is to do the RRs. Get it done as fast as you can!"

I don't think they have gone to the computer checking and deleting quite yet.

On the other hand, there have been RR'd posts that have been around for close to a week!

I wrote something before I went out this morning because I noticed someone else's comment had been reported. Just looked a few minutes ago and the whole thread seems to have disappeared. :-S

Maybe it would be quicker if you tried a Ouija board :-( :-(

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 16 Jun 2019 17:51

It often seems that there is only 1 person working for GR at any one time ..............

and 3-5 working days is about the fastest response you can expect.

No-one EVER responds on this site any more, and there are few responses on the FB page unless it seems that a comment is really likely to affect GR.

FMP has all the resources, GR is being left to stumble along.

I wouldn't expect a response already if I'd emailed last Thursday. They are a small team and, I believe, don't work weekends. Patience.

Thanks.
Tried all ways since thursday.
You'd think if they had a problem then they would post it on their board!!!
