Have to agree with you, though, they did have a huge effect on society.

That doesn't really cover the basic thinking behind some of the laws under which many of our ancestors lived. Ancestors who, I might add, had no say at all in how they were governed.

I think it helps to have some grasp of politics, the philosophy anyway, because all our ancestors were affected by it.

I personally think Strictly come dancing is the best show on earth. Politics bore me rigid so I stay well aware from them. RR comments talks down to people and he is quickly shoved back in to his box. No subjects can afford to be banned from GR or else the chat board would become absolute still stale and static :-)

Kense, a person's political views are their own.
That's why, when we vote, it's a 'secret' ballott.

There's also 'chatting' as opposed to 'ramming your personal view down everyone's throat'.
Not sure if you've noticed RTR's mode of 'chatting'.
It's a case of: 'Here's my view, I'm right, everyone else is wrong'.

If you dare to voice your own view/opinion, which may be slightly contradictory to his, you're met with insults. No reason about why he considers you wrong.

A prime example is on the 'Forced Marriages' thread, where he manages to combine insult with the wonderful discussionary response of 'wrong'.

I though the chat board was intended as a light hearted break from research for tree building and a place to get to know other genealogists?
I doubt GR set it up as a place to bicker about politics.

It may not be a political forum but it is supposed to be a general chat board where we can chat about non-genealogical stuff.

If politics is banned then why not ban chat about dancing, tv shows, religion, rugby etc.?

I shall look over the weekend.
I wonder if I'll find anything about the pirate politicians! :-D
