Hi Margaret,

I looked at the image also and wondered why they had given it as an alternate name as it is the family below who are Chappells, just something else to confuse us.

Linda. Thanks for that info. I didnt know names were sometimes added at baptism. No wonder we cant be sure we have the right ones.

Christine.
I dont know why Ancestry has added Chappell as an alternative name because the image clearly states he is Parsons.
Ancestry is also adding names for married daughters and giving the name of the head but that isnt always the case if mother has remarried.

ChristineinPortugal Report 20 Jan 2008 17:57

I thought the one showing also as Chappell must be the one, dificult isn't it with so many Charles Parsons.

Sorry can't help any further.

Margaret - Just for future ref. I have just been informed that sometimes names were added at the baptism, maybe the godparents names, therefore not necessarily on the birth cert.

look for Charles W Parsons born 1858 in N. occ carman

Names changed to Chappell but this is an error if you check the image because it has a Chappell family underneath and the names are mixed up

But your man is Charles William Parsons on his marriage cert.

No point buying a birth cert without William as middle name

Linda

Linda Report 20 Jan 2008 00:01

I have pondered over all the things you good people have found and I'm still scepticle as to whether or not Charlotte is the mother of my man Charles.

I have sent for birth certs. for children of Charlotte and I think she must have been unmarried and made up names.

I have the following info. from the certs.:
Charles born 02.03.1855 No father. Ann Parsons mother.
Charles Kernick born 16.03.1856 No father. Charlotte Parsons formerly Kernick mother.
Charlotte born 20.11.1860 No father. Charlotte Parsons mother.

Any ideas please? Until I find Charles William Parsons born 1856 I can't trace back any further.

Just seen the previous post and it does look possible, well done Margaret.

Sorry Linda, he is on the 1861 & 1871 census with mother Charlotte. Birth certs. for who I think is him and his siblings do not have a fathers name on them but the mother has put herself as Charlotte Parsons. I suspect she is not married as all children were born in the workhouse and maybe the father given on his marriage cert. is also made up, I really don't know, it's such a mess!!!

Linda

Linda Report 18 Jan 2008 23:52

I don't know his mothers name, his father is John Parsons, I got that from his marriage cert.

Linda

Linda Report 18 Jan 2008 23:47

I don't think this is him because 1881 was the year he married and this was in Camberwell.
