can anyone please tell me how I go about finding a marriage, ive tried on the LDS site, but cant find anything, I know on the 1851 census, William King and Mahala are the parents of George King born 1844 Bilsley in Norfolk, I have Ancestry, but never been able to get anything other than census really, any help would be great.

Without knowing if there were older offspring, it's hard to advise you.....were they shown as being together on 1841 census?

Can we assume you've checked the bmd's on Ancestry?

Sorry Reg, I couldnt find them on the 1841 census, on the 1851 william and mahala are both 30 yrs old, children are 7 yrs and 5 yrs, is that a help ?

Just look below the 'Census and Voter' results list.........where there is the heading 'Birth, marriage and Death'

I would check first on the transcribed index although this only goes up to about 1920 ish.

First click on the search button.
On the right hand side of the screen under "browse records" click on "Births, marriages and deaths".
You will then get a search box.
Put in the name you are looking for, country and county, and a range of years.
Then just search through the results.

In your William King's case, the first child was born about 1843/1844, so I looked for a marriage in 1843 in the Mitford registration district (which is where they were living on the 1851 census).

The marriage was easily found.

If you don't find what you are looking for you need to look at the complete index, by clicking on "England and Wales BMD Index" which is a bit further down on the "Browse records" list.

I must say it's a lot easier to search for a marriage in FreeBMD, because you can enter the husband's full name and the wife's Christian name:
